I can NOT yet vouch for the accuracy of the posts on the Brazilian gun blogs, BUT it appears that the Taurus 24/7 .40 COMPACT magazines may be the SAME as the PT640 mags.
Tonight I ordered several of the factory original 24/7 .40 Compact 11 round magazines from Cabela's, where they are on sale for HALF PRICE at $19.88.
For the same price Cabela's has the mags for the MIL PRO 9mm and 45acp. I had previously bought some of these for my PT145 PRO and they were perfect.
The magazines from Cabela's arrived tonight, Thursday.
They appear to be almost identical to the original PT640 mags with a few minor differences.
On the side of the magazine body they are marked "PT24/7 CAL. 40 - MADE IN BRAZIL"
The plastic base of the magazine is a little taller than the PT 640 magazine by about 1/8",
making the overall length of the magazine about 1/8" longer.
For those who like a slightly longer grip, this may be a small benefit.
The bottom of the plastic base pad has the Taurus logo, and is marked "PT 24/7"
The magazines were in individual plastic bags with a sticker on the side with the Taurus logo, stock number, and UPC code.
Straight from the package, the mags felt slightly oily. I have not yet cleaned them as I did the PT640 mags when they were
new.
I loaded each of the mags that I received tonight with 11 rounds of Speer-LE (Law Enforcement) .40 S&W Gold-Dot duty ammunition, 180gr GDHP
bullets, stock number 53962. I also similarly loaded a PT640 magazine as a control.
Going to the back porch, with no one nearby for safety reasons, I MANUALLY cycled each magazine, ejecting the rounds into a large box.
All of the 24/7 magazines fit fine; the only noticeable differences were the thickness of the base (that extra 1/8"), and that they did not make an audible snap as the
mag catch secured the magazines (the PT640 mag had that "snap"). Even without that "snap" they all seated securely.
All of the magazines, both the 24/7 and the PT640 mags, manually cycled perfectly.
In removing the mags from the pistol, they all seemed to feel the same, and draw with about the same force.
Until I have a chance to put some boxes of ammo through the PT640 with the 24/7 mags, and prove their complete
reliability and interchangeability, I can give them a "conditional acceptance", as they appear to fit and function fine (when cycled manually).
The 24/7 mags are still on sale at Cabela's for 1/2 price, $19.88 For the same price, on the same page, Cabela's also has mags for the PT Mil Pro .45 and 9mm.
These are listed as "24/7 Compact .40 S&W" 11 rounds, and are in-stock.
They are online at:
Cabela's: Taurus Factory Magazines
Sometime in the next few days, after I have had a chance to get to the range, I will post the results of my shooting and functioning tests with the 24/7
mags in the PT640.
