I had about 15 mins of evening light left, so ran a few mags through the new GX4. I wanted to get these impressions down before I forgot. A full review is still to come. Lets begin with my initial concerns:
481068

  • Echoes of the Sig P365 initial issue, also GB guns was first to mention this concern. These are factory S&B 115 RN, do you see the primer issues. Striker drag and swelling, then the smileys on the brass. IMO Taurus needs to bore the chamber out a bit more to provide more case support. I will inspect the striker after a few hundred rounds.
  • Ignore what the super strong reviewers are saying, this puppy is a handful. About 10-20% more felt recoil for me than the Sig P365,,caveat - the grip being better in ergo and stippling are partly to blame. Because it allows you to get a great grip, but the rough stippling will make you feel that dance with physics more. Pay heed - this is not a pistol for beginners or weak handed. My next session I will try the smaller grip module, to see if that changes my impressions. Of course with my shooting gloves - no problem.
Now not all is bad here. No fails in the two mags. I ran both mags full, after letting the mag spring set for 24 hours. No feed or out of battery issues. Accuracy and POA/POI weren't bad..the drift left is my grip..2" left was the 11rnd mag, 1" left was the ext mag,,so its gotta be me. I may drift the rear sight. The slide is about 20-30% easier to rack than my Shield plus. Ejection pattern was strong, trigger is just right for a micro SD pistol. that is all for now...more to come.

Mine shot just as well, although I do not know which grip you prefer ? I seem to like the smaller grip, I Have saugage fingers thick thumbs and a larger palm , the larger backstrap seems to push my Hand upwards towards the slide, I dont get slide bite , just feels weird to me , But I do like the shape of the rear of the Backstrap, which the others lack, , and just having an option is great, Great gun for the Money, and since I dont reload, not worried about chamber support , To me its a non issue , I saw that Video, Long and Boring!! way too long!! Happy shooting

GB Guns has a much shorter video with an update explaining the swelling, it’s not an issue.

I had a Sig 365 and while it was accurate it just never fit quite right in the hand for me so I eventually sold it. I thought I was done with these micro 9s till the GX4 came along. It feels good, the finish is holding up a bit better than the G2C I had, and it’s been reliable.

Say what????? This gun is hardly a handful. It is one of the most pleasant Micro's to shoot. And I have shot just about every one and own not only the Sig but others. The Grip is fantastic. And love the way Taurus allowed great space between the receiver and the grip. Great for more control of the Offhand. And do not blame the gun for shooting left. That is either user error or a simple matter of drifting the sight. I never owned a Taurus before, I went with some friends to just test one out like we do with a lot of new guns. Each of us contributed 100 rds (400 total). When the Sig came out before the shortage we shot 1000 rds. All experienced gun enthusiast. Same group that shot the Sig shot the Taurus and all of us felt the Taurus was much better, especially at controlling muzzle flip.
Both guns shot flawless with a mixture of all kinds of ammo. We did have 4 failures with the Sig, but we contributed that to user error. Some shooters would ride the slide, something we warned about before testing.
When I went to the range to test the GX4, I had no interest in Purchasing one. I had too many Micro's and really did not expect much. Lol, I came home that night and ordered one. Taurus IMO took the best of all the Micro's and put into one package.

The Grip space between the receiver and the chassis is very narrow. It does better for small hands. but still not enough to give the off hand support. There is much more muzzle flip from the Sig. I noticed this even with my 365 XL.

We also like the way Taurus does not have the bulky take down lever

This chart by Genitron, I find very accurate on recoil. I also have a number of Micor 9mm single stacks. And the GX4 still above most of them. At least of guns weighing less than 20 oz.

I personally love the grip on the GX4. However each individual will be different. I also loved the grip on the LC9S, but some felt it bit too hard in the hand. But Talon Grips now offers both their standard, rubber and new Pro grip. for the GX4.These Micro's need a firm grip when shooting. Not only did Taurus do a great job with the off hand position, they also must have looked at all the grips on other guns.
PS A update-now have just finished putting 500 rds through this gun and not one single hiccup. And I ran just about every thing under the sun.

I won mine in a gun raffle. Ironic, because I have had my eye on this gun for several months. I took it out yesterday, put 50 rounds through it. I was shooting Herter's, which I think may be made by Winchester (Win on the head stamp). No FTF, one FTE. It shot consistently low and left. I am a pretty consistent shooter, so maybe crap ammo? I watched a u-tube review where the reviewer had the same issue. I will run some different ammo through it and see what happens. Hickock45 and others have shot it and not had this problem.

As much as I wanted to love the GX4, I was consistently pulling shots left.

Yes, I know the "you suck at shooting" theories and often correct assumptions about people throwing shots left. I could make shots well with my other firearms everytime I took them and the GX4 to the range.

Great gun, but both mine had like. 7 or 8# trigger. Couldn't figure that out. Yes, I had two GX4s. Same issue on both of them. Ymmv

My LGS owner, a noted gunsmith who is a G2/G3 series fan, has been routinely sending GX4's back to the distributor with sights off, rough feed ramps and machine tool marks on the slides. I buy from that shop because they will remove the slide and barrel for an acceptance inspection before handing over my CC. If your shop won't do that, find one that will.

I never heard of any LGS that would not let you remove the slide and barrel before acceptance. In fact, when I gone to even look at a gun I was interested in, I have broken down the gun at the counter with no issue in decades of buying guns Can any firearm made now not possibly have a issue. NO, it is the nature of the beast and I do not care if it is a Glock, Sig, Beretta etc. I have known the owner of my LGS for decades, in fact he was the one that showed me the GX4 before I even knew they existed. I do not know if he is a certified gun smith, but he definately knows guns and he told me even back then, they are selling great and not seeing any come back. I will see him again this weekend and ask him again. Personally, I would take the comment from that owner that he is doing this "routinely" with a huge grain of salt.In fact, with so many reviews out there now, this is the first comment I have seen as you describe. Are some having issues? I would say sure, just like any manufactuer. But the percentage seems expecially small.
I now have over 1,000 rounds (flawless) through mine and could not be happier. And this is my first Taurus. I did a through inspection of mine when it came it and it was perfect. Since then friends of mine at the club I belong have purchase the GX4 with the same high regard to the gun as I have.
