As the title says, what ammunition do y'all recommend? Which is your favorite and why? I won't be shooting any competition, mostly self-defense ammo for when I carry and just ammunition for the range. I posted it here because I would think that not all the guns here would be using the same at least grain and such. I know 9mm but that is about it. Thanks in advance! ;D

My G2 pretty much eats whatever FMJ I load up. It's not too finicky on ammo. For defensive carry purposes, I use Sig V-Crown JHP and they cycle nice and smooth. You just have to run a couple of different boxes through to see if your G2 likes or doesn't like any particular kind. But from others' comments here it does not appear that the G2 is that particular about ammo. That's another thing to like about it! My range does not allow any aluminum/steel casings so I've never shot that. As far as -my favorite- ammo... probably Blazer Brass 95gr FMJ because it runs nice if the G2 and it's usually less than the others and Academy periodically runs a sale on it.

Well for the range or plinking it really doesn't matter. The cheapest thing your gun will eat. I do try to choose the same bullet weight as my defense ammo for consistency. As far as defense loads some guys go to great lengths to research which load to carry based on damage, wound channels etc. My theory is that any quality dependable hollow point will cause plenty of damage to suit your needs. Any ammo loaded with Hornady XTP bullets are popular as a self defense load. As far as weight I'm not sure how much it matters...go with your gut. I carry Speer Gold dot in all my carry weapons because it scores very high on most gel tests but is much more affordable than many others. Whatever you choose be sure to run at least a box through your gun to make sure they are compatible.

I've run a bunch of different brands of FMJ ammo thru my G2C to see what it liked or didnt.... everything I ran thru it, it ate with NO issues (brass or aluminum). Also the different weights (115gr, 124gr, 147gr) made no difference. But the Winchester Forged (steel) caused problems. I had at least 4 FTE (out of 50) and one of them jammed the slide badly... I couldnt even move the slide enough to field strip it... but I did eventually get it open. I'm all for Made In The USA but I'm not buying that ammo again. Also, its got a coating of gray dust or something that dirties everything. Not worth it. At my local WalMart they have Federal 115gr, FMJ, aluminum cased for $8.72 per 50. I do a good bit of range shooting with that.

I carry Underwood Extreme Defense in my 9mm G2C. It is does it’s Jon regardless of the barriers it has to go through. Since bone is tough barrier I want a sold bullet that will stay within the 12 to 18 inch FBI standard for penetration but ouch through the bone still achieveung that penetration. Bone can often causes early expansion of HP Nd so the penetration if reduced.

I have posted two links to gel tests by MAC on YouTube. They are both on the longer side but they make a good comparison of the bullet compared to HST HP and ball ammo.

I just got a box of the 9mm underwood 90 grain Xtreme defender and the first time I loaded it it went into battery fine. I used my g2c at the range and i unloaded it to load my fmj. Afterwards I went to load the Xtreme defenders back up and found that they jammed 95% of the time even when I slid the slide forward with my left hand. Pretty upset since It seems to perform awesome in videos. This is the only ammo that has jammed in my g2c so far and I've loaded a handful of different hollow points in it.

For Practice, my PT111 G2 like just about anythi8ng but Winchester White Box.

For Self Defense, I use 115gr Hornady Critical Defense.

I have deliberately gone over a thousand rounds in a G2 without a hitch (all brass cases). I've shot a lot of aluminum and never had a problem with it, but I prefer brass and stay away from steel.

In my three G2 pistols, heavier bullets are consistently more accurate and feel better than lightweight bullets. The sweet spot appears to be 124gr. I suspect the benefit is that shorter barrels get a benefit from heavy bullet loads.

I'm new to shooting and just took delivery on a new G2C 9mm. Yesterday was my first range day (with a qualified instructor). The people at the range just grabbed three boxes of Fiocchi range ammo 115 grain when I said I needed ammo. I didn't know what to ask for anyway. Fired 150 rounds and had two FTEs (the gun was fired as it was shipped - I had just done some dry firing prior to the range). My instructor said it was probably an extractor issue (whatever that is).

I called Taurus this morning at 9am. No wait time and spoke with a very nice lady who then spoke to a tech on my behalf. In short, they said the Italian made G2C can be finicky when it comes to ammo. They recommended four brands - Magtech, CCI, Blazer Brass and American Eagle. If I still have problems send it in for service (which they said would take 12 weeks). Anyone else use these recommended brands?

Dannyh982 is right on when it comes to cleaning the gun. My G2Cs ( both of them) were made in Florida. I have put rou d of Remington 115 grain military practice ammo through them. No failures of any kind. When I get any new pistol I clean it like there is dirt hiding everywhere and Lightly oil it after it is cleaned and before it is fired. I would suggest that you also clean the striker housing because mine was full of residue that contributed to a gritty feel of the trigger. You can watch YouTube videos on cleaning the gun and the striker housing. You might change ammo too. I never shot Fiochhi, but I have shots lots of Winchester and Remington FMJ without problems..

I'm speaking prematurely since I haven't gotten my new G2C to the range yet, but based on my (generally relevant) experience with the PT111 G2, I'd expect it to digest just about anything. My G2 never had a single cycling failure of any sort except that it wouldn't chamber Critical Defense. I carried 124gr HST +P in it and that's what I keep in my M2.0. I went with +P because it grouped tighter and closer to the point of aim than the standard pressure with no noticeable increase in felt recoil. Critical Defense is another excellent defensive round if your gun will digest it.

SO, just to add to your choices...I am a prolific shooter, club competitor and defense instructor in North Alabama. I bought my G2 at the NRA Annual meeting and never looked back. I am not recoil sensitive but I want to be able to make reasonably fast follow on shots. SO I tested my G2 with all different weights, including 147grn. Well, on a lark, I decided to see what the difference in recoil was between the 147grn HST and 147grn HST +P. The G2 liked the standard pressure stuff and shot to point of aim. SO I tried a mag full of +P and guess what? Only minimal increase in felt recoil. Not bad or punishing at all. I think the slightly fatter grip spreads the impulse across a broad enough area to make the recoil more than manageable. But the bonus was a 2.5 inch offhand group to point of aim at 20 yards. I installed TFX sights and put the rubber grip wrap on mine also. So I almost exclusively carry the G2 with 147grn +P HSTs on board. Why go fast when you can go faster? So 147grn +P HSTs for me thank you!

Exactly brother, why go fast, when you can go faster. My Teammate J and both picked up the G2 on a win. To try out as an EDC. Since we're competitive against each other by nature of making each other better. We had consistently tried and tried to find something we both liked better than P226 or 1911 for an EDC. Although we'd both had great success and performance outta each in actual combat. The 1911 given its size is a little cumbersome for concealed carry in my opinion. The G2 ended up being a great gun for EDC, And never had any problems with ammo as far as the G2 is concerned. I've run several hundred rounds through it. And since Memorial Day just passed and lost my boy J last year. Wanna give a shout out of remembrance for my brother. I love and miss you man. Enjoy heaven brother, you've served your time in hell.

Someone on a different forum said he had problems with Winchester Forged Steel cased in his PT111. I ran a box of that stuff through my G2C without a single problem. I ran half a box of white box brass cased without a problem. I stopped shooting because I was shooting all over the damn place. I think I have it figured out, can't wait to get to the range and see if I can shoot it better. If not, I'm going to blame the gun.

For me I have found that for range use Remington Umc or Federal Champion from Walmart are the best. They are both under 10.00 a box, brass cased, US made and function great. Never had a bad round with either. Also you can get the Remington 115grain jhp 100 round packs at Walmart for around 30.00. From watching Paul Harrell videos on YouTube, this ammo does very well and holds it's own against the more expenses carry ammo. Honestly I've started using the Remington 115 fmj for practice and carrying the jhp load. They shoot identical and POI is the same.
