I have a couple 1911s, but never felt they were suitable for IWB concealed carry.

I know exactly what you mean I am the same way!!!
well almost !!

The Springfiled Armory alloy frame officers model in the picture weighs in at 26.6 ounces WITH an empty magazine. of course besides being light its also very flat and the shorter grip and barrel make it a very comfy carry.
it has ambi safety but they are tactical safeties and do not protrude outward.
I also carry the Para LTC commander (also an alloy) often when in the 1911 carry mode, with a empty mag it weighs in at 28.5 ounces.
course the grip is longer as it takes full sized 1911 mags but it also has the flatter tac safety as well..
the only 1911 that the safeties really ate into my side was /is the PT1911 with them big old bat wing safeties, I have changed a couple out to tact safeties for that reason.

Talked to Taurus at SHOT today. Shipments started last week. This is a really nice pistol. It feels great in the hand. There is a nice palm swell to the grip and the tilting safety trigger is much nicer than a split style trigger safety. The trigger is the best I've tried on a Taurus. The slide is aluminum and the pistol is quite light in person. I'm looking forward to getting one.

ahh yes! you did say at the "SHOT SHOW" right--ever seen a dented or dirty new car at a car show?
I handled quite a few Spectrums, the AR and a few other Taurus weapons (and other manufacs as well) at the NRA show that was here, later got to handle the same models at a gun shop---BIG DIFFERENCE!
now I am not saying that any manufacture would fluff and bluff and really inspect any weapon that they put in a show , I am sure it was just the luck of the draw they all got shipped to the show!----
