Ah. That would make sense. But I have a hard time believing my 608 was made before the system was setup. I guess maybe I will call them. Thanks!
I just purchased a new PT-92 AF-D last week, from Impact Guns, and wanted to make sure that it was truly new (skeptical due to super good price) not unused old stock. The serial number is TKU##### and the Taurus serial lookup page could not find it.

Placed a call to Taurus and, after 20 minutes hold time, the nice guy confirmed August 2017 production and December 2017 sale to the retailer. Yay. Time to clean it up and take 'er out!

Yup, I have concluded mine is old, not new. It seems some of the new ones aren't in the database. It also has the model number on side, rather than hidden behind the swing arm of the cylinder. That seems to be a new practice by Taurus.

Thanks Lomax. Good charts. According to the charts my newly acquired PT92C was manufactured January, 1992. TLAxxxxx / CD. I assume the CD stands for compact decocker, which it is.
Much appreciated.

Link is no longer working.. Went directly to their site & it says how to check & enter your number, however there is no input box to do it.

Just picked up my new PT140ss Pro yesterday, and gave Taurus customer service a call to ask them about my pistol's date of manufacture. At first the person told me it was manufactured in 1974?????, and then said she was looking at the "wrong book", and that the true date of manufacture was February, 2010, with a release date from manufacturing on July, 2011.

I just went to the Taurus website and looked up the production year, and after entering the serial number, the production year is given as 2011.

My SN is SDN512XX, and I probably won't ever know when it was manufactured. It does function perfectly though. After cleaning it thoroughly, it fired both fmj and jhp rounds without any trouble.
SDN means a .40 S&W caliber (S letter), made in 2010 (D letter), February (N).

Correct. SDN means a .40 S&W pistol made in February, 2010.

I've ben trying to determine manufacture date for my Taurus 94. The s/n is K179xxx. Spending hours waiting on HOLD for customer service is not appealing. Do you, by chance, have this one in your data base?
Letteres preceeding the serial number are always two. Assuming that are KI instead K1, your revolver was made in September, 1991 (K=1991, I=September).

Called taurus to find out model to help in a gunbroker listing and she said it a "i.t.i" gone from the 70's and only microfiche exists for law enforcement reasons. says taurus brasil mfg in miami starts with I or 1? then then e84 and three more numbers. 5 shot revolver i assume i can list it as a tauus 85?

My PT92AFSD Serial Number TLA3385S/AFD was purchased new in 1984. It is a stainless steel gun with an alloy frame, so how does that correlate?

There´s something wrong. Decocking was introduced only in the early 1990´s. AF version (firing pin block/no decocker) was introduced in 1984, and has no 3-letter code before the serial number. Three-letter code was introduced for pistols only in October, 1987.

D = 2010
N = February

From what few Spescos we had in the 1970s (and that I have found) it looks like 500,000 range .38s were about 1974 production, then 600,000 range in 1975-1976. If anybody at Taurus has the old IDI records, that will help with lots of late 1970s guns. We'll post on here if we make any discoveries. We had a 640,000 range gun we got used in Sept. of 1976, so probably made late '75 to early '76. We got a 648000 range Spesco 80 in late 1978 from Lanzer Sporting Goods in Union City, TN, after old Mr. Red Lanzer had his stroke, and it likely had been in there for a long time. When I have time, I'll pore over our early 1970s books again. We have lots and lots of Rossis, even in the 1960s, but not many Tauruses until the late 1970s. Hope this helps - John P. john@robertsontradingpost.com
Taurus official book says that all SPESCO revolvers were made in 1969.
