Phenomenal work @Sharps40! You are a patient craftsman

Circling back to the front sight - I am thinking of using an SDM fiber optic sight on mine as its longer at the front to allow the sight to sit more in the 'channel' than the Taurus Ameriglo, it will need fitting and filing, but I think I'm on the right track - they sell it in .250 and .300 height, since I'd like mine to sit 'into' the front sight channel of the Rossi, I am thinking of getting the .300 height sight which should give me a .250 height or so once installed (and since I'd have to shape the "U" on the bottom of the sight into a bit shallower shape to begin with)

thoughts? PInned sight below in green - I would put some epoxy on the front channel or red loctite depending on how tight the fit is in the front sight channel, along with the pin of course

Here is the drawing of dimensions from SDM (it is the .300 high drawing but length/width dimensions are the same) - after examining Rossi front sight although my battery is dead on digital caliper it sits .250" high but sits 'in' the channel flush from the factory, so actual proud height of the barrel is lower, so I should not need the .300 height if my intent is to have it sit as the factory sight is

There may be about 3/8" or so of the remaining front channel seen on the RP63 once fitted, but the dimensions look good, I just may have to reshape the half moon to be a bit shallower and then touch up with cold blue before installing the pin, but on paper, this looks promising to have a sight which should not need shims and can sit flush to the frame as the factory one -

I may even buy the pin and drill set for S&W sights from TK Custom (.062 pin size, #53 cobalt drill bit) and slightly overbore the pin hole and use their more robust pin, as I know @Sharps40 you were concerned with the fragility of the Rossi factory sight pin

Thanks for posting your journey. Have a new RM66 that will be looking for new front sight when we get home from the beach 🏝. Do you know if the front sight channels are the same dimensions?
Thx
Jay

Jay - from what Caleb has said, the RM66/64 have the same pinned front sight as a Taurus 856 so you can use the Ameriglo night sight or the XS Small Dot with it and should just be easy direct swap - (he has a Youtube video explaining on the RM64 but the 66 should have the same sight - personally I like the Ameriglo for the price but the XS Small Dot has a bit more rounded shape and is available with luminescent paint so worth the few extra bucks - If I had an RM64 (and I may in the coming months) I would spring for the XS Small Dot with green luminescent paint as green catches my eye better

The RP63 is the only one that is a little different just due to the longer ramped shape and slightly different half moon shape that fits into the channel, etc so that is why I've been racking my brain to do one that looks proper on it - not to discount the OP as well as one or two others who have successfully fitted the Ameriglo sight on the RP63 however it is using shims, epoxy, silicone etc

For example factory 856 sight on top and RP63 sight on bottom from another member who fitted the Ameriglo sight on his RP63

I also emailed Truglo about measurements about their TFX/TFX Pro sight for J-Frame's to see about possibly fitting it to this RP63 as well the longer length with the fiber optic may allow it to fit better and look proper in the RP63 channel

Thanks for the info, little more complicated that I’d hoped. Dealing with the channel and make look good will probably be my biggest issue. Guess I get the paint out first.

Has anyone got a link to replace the front sight. I noticed you mentioned Taurus and went to there shop but not sure which one will fit
Apologies I missed the page about the sights. Not sure if there have been any updates but it looks like you would have to customize since there is not one officially made for the gun. Is that correct? Thank you for your time

The number 1 complaint with paddle holsters is lack of comfort. Most paddles are like gunstocks, long enough for the average 9 ft tall human.

Like gunstocks, one simply trims away those bits that are uncomfortable/not needed.

At it's original length it was not easy to squat, move, walk or sit. But it's much better now, behind the belt or waistband. Though I'm told, behind the belt might get you ignored by your best buds.

PS, don't trim off the locking tabs that hold the holster in place during the draw.

See my update pics in @DanTheWolfman thread - On my RP63 received in December 2023 (August 2023 build) - XS Sight is a near perfect fitment obviously leaving some of the factory front sight trough exposed but fits with no shims and no loctite needed just the roll pin -

Also - @Sharps40 originally dressed his factory cylinder release to make it more flush with the frame - I swapped in the $6 "v2" cylinder latch/screw from the ShopTaurus site for the small frame and its a 1:1 swap and has slightly shorter legs as machined so it fits much more flush with the frame for better aesthetics - I'll post pics in here tomorrow to keep all the Rossi mods together

Lastly, I'll remark that I have not changed springs or opened it up yet, however enough lube dropped in sparingly and on hammer strut/spring as well and dry fired with and without snap caps about 3-400 times for a 'red-neck trigger job' (apparently that is a curse word without the hyphen?) the trigger has noticeably smoothed out and dropped pull down at least a pound or so since I first got it out of the box - Its probably in the upper 10# range, was likely closer to 12 out the box, I imagine if I polished up a bit on the internals I could get it to low 10# without swapping springs, in DA, which is fine for a defensive revolver IMO
