Pt809 trigger NO-Worky.. EDIT-- Fixed (see end of 1st post)
ok, so i gave the pt809 a bath & it temporarily solved my trigger issue..
the back story..
(at the range mid magazine the gun just simply quit working, it was shooting fine, no issues, then next round the trigger pull felt as though nothing internally was attached..
i cleared the pistol, worked the action (it felt normal) safety lever works fine, decocks the hammer fine too, the slide operation leaves the hammer cocked as it should but pulling the trigger would NOT fall the hammer in SA or in DA.)
so after leaving the range that evening I took it home & gave the fame & trigger internals a scalding hot bath with degreaser soap & multiple rinse, then blew out the water with air hose & then light lube with clp..
(before i dried or lubed the gun the problem seemed fixed & i just thought that there had been excessive oil/grease/grime build up on parts in the trigger group)
so I was so proud that my KISS method had solved my issue..
'TIL
the next time at the range about 1.5 magazines worth of ammo downrange the problem came back..
I again cleared it & removed the slide, I found that while holding upward pressure on the trigger bar with the tip of my pinky it will engage the sear & fall the hammer in either SA or DA..
I have yet to pull the gun apart or contact Taurus to arrange shipping for repair work..
Has anyone else attempted to do repairs on this sort of issue for the pt809? or know the parts breakdown for this model & know if something like a spring holds up the trigger bar or what keeps it in contact with the sear/hammer?
I guess i am hoping the gun fairy will come around at night & repair it while I sleep, i better put it under my pillow..
EDIT**
fixed (see info below)
thanks to this diagram on none other than taurusarmed.net
Ok, after much research & resisting the temptation to just send the gun into taurus & play the waiting game of ''hopefully getting MY gun back & it actually being fixed correctly- i opted for the tear into it myself method, along with the help of my buddy, who is a Gun-genius of sorts we had it solved in about 30 mins..
see the diagram above (again thanks to Taurusarmed.net for the image)
see part #57 & #58 Firing pin Plunger & Spring..
the trigger bar rides on top of the plunger & during normal operation during trigger pull the plunger via the spring provides upward pressure on the bottom of the trigger bar so that it contacts the sear & actuates the hammer.
the top edge of my Firing pin Plunger had deformed (mushroomed slightly) & was binding against the inside edge of the frame & once it was depressed (when the hammer falls) it jammed with the firing pin Spring compressed. thus causing the failure.
the FIX: removing the firing pin Plunger from the trigger group assembly via removing the retainer pins from the frame.
then using a cordless drill to Hold the very small part in the chuck of the drill we then used a finishing stone on the bench grinder to remove the mushroomed bur from the top edge of the Plunger, simultaneously turning the plunger with the drill to rotate it against the grinder wheel & evenly grind out the bur, smoothing out & beveling the top edge slightly. also polishing the bottom edge of the trigger bar at the plunger contact area.
Then after a light coat of cold blueing paint on the plunger reassmbled the gun with some gun butter grease on the top of the plunger & it works flawlessly (dry firing) in both double & single action.
the true test will be at the range, hopefully soon!
