PT111 same gun in 9mm, I been carrying it for over a year, locked and loaded. Many others have carried them for much longer since Generation 1. So I think unless your really bad it should be safe.

 

I really like my PT 145, and intend to CC on a daily basis.
With one in the pipe, striker under tension, and a manual safety engaged,
how safe is to carry PT145?

As safe as any other semi-auto carried in Condition 1.

WITH THE GUN UNLOADED ...

Practice putting it into the holster and taking it out without touching the trigger. Practice every day until you are completely comfortable with handling the gun. Do this BEFORE you ever even think of carrying with the gun loaded.

Make sure your holster completely covers the trigger guard.

Just a quick question: Does PT145 (3rd generation)
have a firing pin safety (like Glock or 80 series 1911's?

Have you read the owner's manual? Page 19 not only answers the question but shows you a diagram of the firing pin block.

 

kubura - Welcome to the boards. I understand your anxiousness about coming to THE Taurus forum to get the straight scoop. But, Majorlk has the right advice. Take the time to thoroughly READ the owner's manual and acquaint yourself with your weapon. Safety first.

And, like Robby says, the short answer is YES. The firing pin safety is part of the Taurus safety system on the PT 145. The pin block will not release the firing pin until the trigger is engaged. Thus, the long(er) trigger pull.

 

if you break down the gun, you can see the button in the slide, that has to be presed in to allow the firing pin to travel forward.....you can then pull the trigger, and see the metal part in the frame that presses this button. You can then judge for yourself how safe it is.

the firing pin block is spring loaded to return to the BLOCK position...

I see apsolutely NO WAY this gun can go off, with out a deliberate pull of the trigger with the manual safety OFF......

take it apart, and look at it......push that button, and then push the firing pin forward....then release the button, and try pushing the pin forward....see for yourself......I would say it is MORE LIKELY that your car will magicly slip out of park, and into reverse, then this pistol going off without someone pulling the trigger.

 

To answer the question it does not have an automatically engaging sear block. It is manual when you flip the safety.
