I am considering painting the front sight of two of my guns. I considering this to improve visibility.

I have some orange model paint.

Is it best to paint just the top of the sight or paint it all the way down to the barrel?

What about using tape to prevent getting paint on the barrel?

To be honest, I painted my front sight on my Kimber with orange model paint and it worked ok, but I ended up painting it with white model paint and found that it shows up a lot better. IMHO, I would go with white.

I used some Liquid Paper (white) on the front sight of my Dan Wesson model 15. It was red but I had a hard time seeing it at the indoor range. If I want to change it I rub it off with my finger.

You can buy special paint just for that reason its cheap and can be found at most gun stores.

A lot of people use fingernail polish.

Yeah, I may try the nail polish next for the variety of colors and the ease of changing it out with some acetone.

The other paint that designed for it last pretty well I bought a 3 bottle pack and its still good after many years. Plus its florescent.

Bright Sights work pretty well. A friend of mine bought a set a couple years ago. He let me use the set a few months ago to doctor up some of my sights. Works pretty dang well and there is enough paint to last through dozens and dozens of guns.

Just be sure to really clean off your sights before painting and allow to dry for over 24 hours if not longer. If you wait only a few hours, the paint will come right off.
