Night sights

Does anyone make a nightsight for the pt709? I don't want those stick on or painted on sights, they are a waste of money. Just figured I'd ask since I can't really find anything for this gun except for the crimson lasers

A few have replaced the stock front sight with a TruGlo Universal shotgun sight. Requires you grind down the stock sight screw to re-use it with the TruGlo version. Cost about $9.99 at Academy Sports

There are a few after market vendors that folks have used with their 709s, do a quick search for night sights and they should pop up.

BTW, I agree with your review on the stick-on versions (at least the Nitesites)

The truglo is not a night site but a fiber optic so it is useless in the dark. If you want to go with a true night site the glock one is the way to go other than a laser.

Yep, my current setup is using the TRUGLO Universal shotgun sight - it is a slight improvement as a daytime sight - mostly for getting your eye to the front sight more quickly and decisively.

I disagree on the NiteSights, have them on all the semi-autos and they work great.
Used the glue they sent on them and I can tell you now, they're not coming off!
For $12.00, I can't complain.

I just order a AmeriGlo GL-112 front tritium sight for my 740. Another member on this forum did something similar with a write up. Some slight fitting is needed for installation.

Hey guys - I'm the one who bought the Ameriglo night sight made for Glock (GL-212-GR-Q). It is only a front sight, but is larger and sits lower on the slide than the stock 709 sight. Much more visible with the yellow square, and glows nicely green at night. I posted a while back in this subforum on the procedure, with pictures. You will need to use a dremel to carefully trim the foot on the sight so it will fit in the hole on the 709 slide. You will also need to trim a bit of the lip inside the slide so the Glock hex screw head will fit. The screw from the 709 sight won't git in the new Glock sight; you have to use the Glock screw. Finally, you need to either trim the end of the screw or put on a small washer, as the screw is a little too long (I got a small washer at Ace hardware). Here pictures that show the mounted Ameriglo sight vs the stock 709 sight, and the inside of the slide with the Glock hex screw in place:

Are you able to compensate for the front height difference using an elevation change on the stock rear sight?? At night you may be 'sight' shooting using the front as a loose guide (yes/no?!) but how is the setup as a day shooting sight system?

BTW - I've purchased from ecops on eBay in the past and all went well - done that at least twice.

From other threads about this sight, the lower height of the Glock v.s. the stock Taurus height has helped with the low part of the low/left tendency that some folks are having.

I'd also be interested in how easy it is to pick up the 112 sight during the daytime hours, and how well it functions during the night.

GeoBob if you're out there, did you ever look at this sight when you were doing your research? If so, why did you pick the 212 over the 112 version. I'm leaning towards the same sight you've installed, GL212-GR-Q.

Having not seen them in person, the 212 appears to provide a larger Tritium portion then the 112? Which I assume would provide a quicker eye on sight/target time.

Thanks

The sight is very easy to see in the daylight. The white really pops. At night the tritium glows brightly, much brighter than the tritium sight on my M&P360 and the PT-1911. Probably because of the newness.

Best price I found on line was from these guys

Just finished the install of the 112 version on my 709, I was able to find it locally and had nothing else going on today so I went that route.

No chance to check the POA/POI, that'll be on Friday!

After grinding off too much of my stock sight screw on the install of the TruGlo sight, I decided to double up on the washer stack so as not to have to mess with the Glock screw. Take it slow with the Dremel and test the fit often, but you are right it's a rather easy mod.

I wasn't able to find any washers at either Lowes or HD, but did find them at Radio Shack - Cat#: 64-3022, SKU: 2265910. They come in an assortment pack (5 sizes) of 20 each, I know who needs 100 tiny washers. But at only $2.49 it's a deal!

I read somewhere that the Glock sight screw was a 3/16" socket headed screw, mine wasn't. It was a 5mm, just incase your thinking about buying one. It did make it easier to start the screw but you could do it with a pair of needle nose pliers too.
