New Taurus 856 Defender stainless with matte black cylinder is being marked/scored by cylinder stop?

I just took delivery of a new Stainless 856 Defender with 3in barrel on 25Oct2023 and it is already showing signs of scraping or "scoring marks" around the matte black cylinder after only shooting 12 rounds through it. Analysis of root cause clearly shows it is the Cylinder Stop that is marking up the cylinder. For such a good looking revolver, I am very disappointed to see that it is only likely to get worse! Has anyone else experienced this and/or contacted Taurus with concern? Thanks, USNCWO3Ret

All revolvers will show that ring after use. Stainless cylinders show it less than black cylinders. For example My new in box S&W 29 classic engraved revolver - already has a slight turn ring just from the factory test fire. This can be mitigated a bit by applying clp or other lube to the outside of the cylinder and I also put a dab of grease on the cylinder stop and dry fire 5-6 times, then wipe off excess left on the cylinder. But it is going to wear through the black finish. Welcome aboard from NW Arkansas. Of all my revolvers the Stainless versions of the Ruger GP100 and Redhawks are the only ones that show very little wear due to the cylinder stop.

Welcome to a great site andre!

It would be interesting to see a pic, but the other members are right; all revolvers get one to some extent.

A trick I learned a while ago - polish the top of the stop from left-to-right, not fore-and-aft. This won't eliminate drag-line, but will help to minimize it. I used a super-fine hard arkansas stone with oil.

Thanks to all for comments! Picture attached as some had requested. My other revolver Ruger GP100 .357 6in barrel is completely stainless and have not seen this marking. Got this 38 Special primarily for the wife as she has challenge racking the slide with my Glocks (both 9mm & 10mm) and SIG (.40cal) semi-autos. Going to try her with the Hornady Lite 90grn rounds as they should have less recoil.

Thanks for the feedback...makes sense. Really enjoy the revolver and wife likes it much better than her Glock 9mm. Trigger pull is relaxing some as we fire it more, which is also a plus for her. My only other revolver is a stainless Ruger GP100 6in barrel and as you state, the stainless doesn't show the "ring" near as much as the Matte Black. Thanks again!
