Picked this up recently with the extra clip and in the original hard case. Shortly after that I found out about the recall...

Congrats on a great find! Just ignore the recall, it's complete baloney. The only thing you have to do to avoid the issue is this:
  1. DON'T partially pull the trigger and set the safety at the same time.
  2. If you did the above, DON'T pull the trigger while the gun is not aimed in a safe direction.
If you can manage those two things, your MilPro is completely safe. If you can't manage those two things, YOU are unsafe.

Enjoy your new MilPro!!!

Thanks. I do like the gun and the caliber. It had been sitting in a former smith's safe for years and just needed a good clean and lube. I've put a couple hundred rounds through it without a single failure and once I got used to the four foot long trigger pull I realized it has no business being as accurate as it is for the price. I think I'll only replace it with a 9mm for my wife's carry piece if I find another one.

Since it is covered under the settlement, Taurus should exchange it for a new gun, likely a PT111G2c (9mm). They should pay shipping and also pay for the transfer fee since they can only ship it to a federal licensee. There have been reports of a few guys who have had kind customer service reps actually send them a .40 in exchange but their standard is always the 9mm.

Pretty much anyone who still owns a MilPro wouldn't dream of giving it up. Especially those of us with a PT145. Taurus has never come out with anything that's truly a replacement for it.
I'd like to try the 45. I really like shooting the .40. I am definitely keeping my PT140 through, partly because of your info. Thanks again War.

I'm definitely not trading my .40 for a 9mm. I really like the PT140 now that I have the trigger pull figured. The accuracy is surprisingly good and it's a comfortable EDC. Now to find the right 9mm for my wife's carry since she's eyeballing my .40. Thanks for the info DB.
