Called Taurus and told them about my problem. They gave me the option of sending me the part or sending the gun to them. I thought it was going to be a waste of time but after reading some of the horror stories in wait time after sending it in, I told them to send me the part and I'd try that first.

The part they sent was the magazine release switch. In comparing the old one and the new one I couldn't tell the difference which increased the waste of time thought I had in my head. So I put the new one in.

Problem solved. Took about a week for the part to get here and about 5 minutes to open up the package, take the gun apart, put the new piece in and put it back together.

This just happened to me at my CCW class, right when I needed it the most.
Outdoor range time in 32deg weather.
Pull out the gun and set it down and the stupid mag release button falls out.
So pissed!
Found it, put it back in and kind of held it in place during the drills. it was loose but was able to finish without any other issues.
Took it home pulled the spring out and positioned it to apply more pressure against the button.
Works fine for now. But what a poor design.
Needs to be more robust.

Pulled the spring out?

Yes I took a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled it out. it was too loose, the mag release would just fall out if I tilted the gun to the right. I re-positioned it so it would provide a tighter fit against the mag release. Temporary fix as I'm sure it will just fall out again.
Going to call Taurus to see what they have to say and if there is a fix in the works for the issue.
A spring that would mechanically fasten to the mag release would be a start.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if a part is at fault by merely looking at it. A friend of mine had an LCP that had been reliable for hundreds of rounds, then developed an extraction problem. The extractor looked fine, looked exactly to our eyes the same as the new extractor. Neither of us are trained and experienced gunsmiths. Perhaps one of them could've seen what we didn't. The problem however went away after the extractor was replaced.

I have a PT140 G2 that has been at Taurus for 2 months and 1 week now with the same problem. Firearm was new just took it out of the box, put the magazine in released it once and the release bar and spring fell out Taurus status has been saying waiting for parts for 6 weeks now. Talked to Taurus today and they said parts come in at the end of every month so they cannot give me a time frame when it will be repaired. Same release as my PT111. Makes me leary about relying on these firearms. My 24/7 G2C 45 release is screwed in and will not come out.

Did you have to pay for the part?
I just called and Asked if they could send me the part but it would be on my dime. or I could send it in for repair.
When I explained the situation a bit more she said that they would not be able to send out the part that I would have to send it in.
I agreed and they paid for shipping.
will be sending it out this week.
As long as the problem is fixed I don't mind sending it in. I have other guns to play with in the meantime and I'm shopping around for an AK. >:-D

I didn't pay for anything. They sent it out and I fixed it free of charge.

Same thing happend to me while i was cleaning mine...What a terrible cheap
design!!..I was cleaning mine and pushing on the back side of the mag release
and it just popped out.

If you look up in the magazine well... All that holds it in place is a steel pin with a hole that it rests in
and the pin just puts pressure on the back side the mag release button to hold it in place.

I had to glue mine back in and bend the pin so it pushed inward towards the mag release button
to put pressure on it so it would stay in place.

If your magazine is in the gun ...The pin and release button can't fall out...But if that pin comes loose at the range and you
are changing mags it can slide out and the pin is so small you would never find it!.

So when i went shooting after i fixed it.. I was paranoid every time i changed out a mag and kept checking to make sure it was
all still good...Seems to have fixed it so far.

I still like the gun but it bugs the hell out of me that i have spent money on night sights, guide rod extra magazines
and i cant have complete confidence in it and care free shooting at the range!

Three things that bother me though on this gun are...
1) Terrible mag release design
2) Mags rattle when in gun ( Had to use o-ring at bottom of mag to stop rattle.
3) Slide finish is wearing off on all edges that contact holster...( Finish is not durable)

For the money i still say its a good reliable gun that feeds everything i run through it
But i have made mine my night stand gun where it will get the least amount of abuse.

My Brother has the same issue and while we were reassembling and trouble shooting we found what we think the problem is or one of them. The track that the nub on the release should be captured by to keep it from over travel is not deep enough. This allows the mag release to over travel and then fall out when a mag is released. He has the single stack version and comparison shows the big difference in depth. It doesn't appear to be a spring issue either too loose or falling out. It falls out because the release bar is not in place to keep it in place. I think the only fix for this problem is new weapon. The track is molded in the polymer frame.

Seems Taurus is going in the wrong direction. Quality control is at an all time low. Call me crazy but it seems like there are more and more issues arising among the newer G2's. Recoil spring problems, Trigger safety issue and now magazine release issue. They keep coming. I want my old Pt Mill Pro back,

I've put 2,000 rounds through my gun so far. i don't think replacing one little part for free is justification for brand shaming. Especially considering I only paid $175 brand new.

I mean, would you rather have a Hi-Point?

Now, the machining on the lady's PT709 slide is a different discussion. That rough edge scraping the top of the barrel worries me. Then again, at the rate they're producing these things, I suppose one is going to slip by every now and then. It's nothing I can't fix with a file but it's the fact I have to on something so hard to miss.

From other posts, it sounds like Taurus fixes the problem with a larger nub on the release.

Just because you were fortunate enough to get a good G2 does not negate the facts that more and more people are having multiple issues with their G2's. I have had trigger safety blade break and now am having multiple failure to eject for the second time.

People have issues with their Glocks and S&Ws too. If you mass produce anything, you're going to run into issues every so often. I guess I've just seen less complaints than I have commendations.
