Is the G2c finally dead?

Taurus must be telling journalists that the GX2 is "replacing" the G2c because EVERY sponsored review has mentioned it. As soon as I saw the G3c and the G2c back to back, I was convinced that the G2c was on borrowed time. That was about 4 years ago so clearly my instincts were wrong. Now out of nowhere the GX4s cousin is the "actual" G2c killer.

Do you think we see Taurus stop shipping new G2c to distributors at the same time as they ramp up GX2 production? I'm predicting Taurus squeezes one last shipment of G2c that keeps them on shelves for at least a year.

It is time for the G2c to go away and Taurus to take the efforts producing it and put it toward quality assurance for the rest of their products.

I like my G2c. I can understand it's demise because of the G3c and it relationship with the G3. I love the magazine compatibility. Taurus would have had a big win if most of their semi's shared magazine compatibility. I feel it's that's were Glock had/has a win. The Glock 17, 34, 19X, 45 and 47 all share the same magazine which will also fit into the 19, 49 and 26. Taurus has a win with making a full size grip out of a factory sleeve. To me, the G2c has a better grip, better ergonomics and better capacity then the Glock 26.

Lots of folks seem to like their G2C. I wanted to like mine but unfortunately mine is a lemon. It has never functioned properly. Three trips back to Taurus: two trips for light strikes and one for a cracked slide. I still experience occasional light strikes. I would NEVER EVER trust my particular G2C for carry. I'm so disgusted with it now that it sits in the safe. Although my GX4 and TX22 work well, the light strike issue with my G2C soured me on striker fired guns. Any future handgun purchase I make will almost assuredly be hammer fired. In hindsight, I wish I had bought a Taurus TH9c instead of the G2C. Oh well🥴

I'm sorry to hear that! My experience has been 100% opposite of yours. I've had my G2C for over 6 years. I have sent over 2,000 rounds downrange, at least 5 different ammo manufactures, both hollow point and ball ammo, and I can count the # of failures on one hand over that time. It's like any other budget gun ... quality control is spotty. If you get a good one, it's generally good, if you get a bad one ... ugh. My G2C has earned the right to reside appendix IWB, I carry it regularly.

With a G3C being available sometimes as low as $220 at box stores or Bud's, the need for the G2C is pretty much gone

The G3 will soon supplant the G2 in that role in Taurus' lineup

The 40 G3C came out, if a full size G3 .40 is released I'll be all over one

The G3 isn't made at the same location as the G2 from what I've heard, that would point to the G3 being planned as the "go to poly striker pistol i.e. Glock competition " for Taurus , offering reliability, shootability and different "flavors" like the G3 Tactical, G3X , etc at an attractive price point. The move to have the G3 accept Glock sights was genius on Taurus' part.

One of my G3s has a Gen 4 Glock 17 RSA and a Glock striker spring, that I installed , and it shoots beautifully. A Gen 5 RSA would probably work too. The G3 has definitely carved out a niche in the poly pistol market.

The G2C will be phased out because it's redundant to have a slightly lower priced compact with less features than the G3C , the G2C is basically just a next gen Millenium

Yeah I wouldn't put that stuff in your G2 or G3

It wouldn't "break " the gun immediately but you'd be beating the heck out of it for 0 gain plus a defensive gun isn't very useful when you fire it when you need it , and the slide jams back, recoil spring rod breaks or the slide cracks

I think guns are starting to be like cars. A model will have a run and then get replaced. It doesn't mean that model no longer works or doesn't have parts available, it just means the company is focusing on a new model. The gun that I carry the most and is the one that I would give up last is no longer in production, but I still would give it up last if forced to give up all of my firearms. It just runs. It doesn't matter that new ones aren't being produced, mine just goes bang everytime I pull the trigger no matter the ammo I use. Sure it isn't currently trendy or sexy, but what does that matter when I need to use it. Yes the GX2 is likely replacing the G2C, but don't let that discourage anyone from owning or even buying a GC2.

Ruger did this with the American and Security 9....producing a "budget" and "duty" grade gun simultaneously then Boom they drop a Glock clone and seem like they want to forget the previous models

All these models are just next Gens of the Millennium type pistols . Like Glock, putting out new gens to make gun buyers feel they need to upgrade is a business model

You could probably keep a G2C running forever with G3C parts

Plus I haven't heard of anyone putting like 50,000 + rounds through a G2C or a G3 for that matter, like avid shooters report with Glocks . Most people don't beat the hel out of these guns, they're mostly sold as budget CC/HD pieces

I have one G3 approaching 4000 and honestly I think I'm subconsciously just seeing how many rounds it will take to make it fail . I enjoy shooting it and Magtech steel is affordable so either I'll find out eventually or give up into the 20,000s or so

i don't think anyone is saying someone who has and likes their G2c should sell it. But I believe anyone walking into my local Gun Emporium and seeing a G2c @ $205 next to a G3c with 3 not 2 magazines, steel sights instead of plastic and a better feeling ( not necessarily less trigger pull weight) but better feeling to sensitive or arthritic fingers. Priced at $194 and would choose the 2c , either didn't pass 3rd grade math or is more than a few French Fries short of a Happy Meal. Just sayin' 💥🔫

When I'd fleshed out the G2C well enought to make it my EDC, I then bought two more. "Three is two, two is one, one is none." That also gives me my own parts supply into the future. And I've already bought some custom parts from Lakeline...'cause they're there.

I don't see any problem with Taurus having improved the compact G line, and if they have an improved model for little more cost...why would they continue to manufacture an inferior model?
