How long to wait for Taurus parts?

Hi all, I had some issues with a 856 which I had to contact Taurus about. Basically the cylinder lock would drop inside the frame and not come back out whenever I cocked the hammer back into single action mode. It meant the cylinder was free to rotate. After no luck in calling or emailing Taurus I managed to get ahold of them in their chat. They said they would send a new Spring/plunger that is supposed to prop the cylinder lock up out of the frame. Anyways, that was 4 weeks ago going on 5 now and I’m still waiting.

How long do you guys typically wait for parts? I’m half thinking after reading some much older posts that I won’t see the part for 6 months from now. Or they just forgot about me. I’ll probably try to get ahold of them again but I was just curious what most people had experienced.

My only experience with direct dealings with firearms companies is limited to 2 occasions. One was with smith and Wesson and the part they sent arrived in a week.

A different occasion I had to send in a firearm to Bersa for repairs and they sent me a new firearm in about a week and a half.

The only time I've ordered from Taurus (probably about a year ago) I received my parts in about a week. Of course, they were in stock at the time and I actually talked to someone because they could not take payment over the chat session. However, I did set up the order over chat and received an order number, so when I called in to pay, they knew of what I was referring.

Did you get an order number? If so, I'd go back on to chat and check on that order. It is possible they don't even have the parts and they will send them whenever they are made and shipped in from Brazil. If you didn't get an order number, I'd cancel the payment and place a new order (making sure to get an order number).

Well they are normally all over the map. I've gotten stuff in a week at times. Other times months. But right now there's been this virus thing going around (maybe you heard about it?) and it seems like a lot of companies are slower than usual. So it's hard to predict what's happening today based on the past. But the past wasn't that good so...

You guys are hilarious! Thanks. I chatted with Taurus today. They said the part is on its way. Should take 7-10 business days. They said they’ve had several delays. I can’t wait. I hope it’s the fix that I need. Otherwise, I might have to send the gun in for repairs which I really don’t want to do.

Hey all, just an update. It’s been 10 weeks since they said they would ship that one part to me. After waiting 4 weeks I contacted them to inquire, to which they said it would take about 7 to 10 days. That was 6 weeks ago. I’ll try to contact them again tomorrow, but getting worried.

Despite all the coronavirus stuff going on I might be moving in about 2 months. I would hate to move and it arrive sometime this Fall to the new home owners.

Is there any business you all know that sells Taurus 856 parts? I seriously doubt the part I am waiting for costs more than 10 bucks if that. And there’s no guarantee that its the right part to fix the issue. I sure hope it is as I wouldn’t want to weight another 10+ weeks to try a new fix.

Try Numrich Gun Parts. I believe they have parts for the 856, if not, I believe that the model 85 and model 605 use the same cylinder lock spring and plunger assembly. You can find them here: www.gunpartscorp.com

And good luck with Taurus on parts. A former Taurus dealer told me that they waited sometimes up to 18 months for parts. That's right, a dealer waiting 18 months.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Well personally, I don't see why excuses should be made for them. I see people say they are slow because of the move to a new plant, because of the virus, and maybe even because of Aunt Bessie's arthritis! Fact is, before the move, before the virus, and yes probably before Aunt Bessie's arthritis the service was still lousy and basically non existent.

I think they make cheap (as in not expensive) guns and customer service is at the best of times expensive. Add to the a nonexistent quality control resulting in a large number of warranty claims.

It is what it is... move on folks, nothing to see here.

Don

Yea, my EXPERIENCE with Taurus repair/customer service was well before any of the mentioned REASONS, can't say as to what happens now as I have chosen NOT to buy a Ticket on the carnival ride after my past with Taurus for quite some time now.
but those that have not had problems I am glad to hear that, firearms should be fun not a PITA to own..

Desperado- thanks. I checked out the site you suggested. It looks like they normally have the part for the model 85 and 605 but it’s sold out right now. Actually cruising through their site, it looks like a most of the Taurus revolver parts are sold out. I hope they restock them soon. As I suspected, the part I need is about $5. It’s a lot of effort for a $5 part.

I can’t get over how unprofessional Taurus has been. Looking at other folks posts and experiences, it’s ridiculous. I don’t know of a single other company or distributor who would make it this hard or take this long. If they don’t want their parts floating around so third party companies can sell them, then they owe it to their customers to provide top notch service. Nothing in this day and age should take this long, virus or not. You can’t purposely keep parts out of circulation from retailers, and simultaneously ignore service and parts requests from customers and expect to survive as a company. Maybe they expect Taurus is too big to fail, but it’s a great recipe for going out of business.

Right now I’m imagining they have 1 guy responsible for getting parts out of the bin packing them and shipping them, but he only works on Tuesday afternoons, spends most of those afternoons hanging around the break room enjoying coffee and chatting with other employees, but has been calling off sick lately. Maybe on any given week he gets like 1 good hour of work done.

Sorry all. Just frustrated.

We all understand your frustration Rick. Those of us that have been around for any length of time are use to seeing posts expressing such frustration and anger over Taurus's lack of customer service in suppling parts, service, replacement firearms and in giving customers outright misleading information. Taurus USA has a new CEO that has acknowledged these issues and has made it a priority to fix it. The Taurus USA CEO is subordinate to Taurus management in Brazil and with most parts made and shipped from Brazil it will be a difficult goal to meet. Only time will tell.

Taurus's unlimited warrantee sounds great and their low priced goods are attractive to buyers. When their firearms work, they are a great bargains. But when you need parts or service, you're rolling the dice at a crap table with hopes of getting what you need in a reasonable time.

In the meantime, Good luck in your quest for that elusive replacement part.

Your welcome, Rick. I understand the frustration in dealing with Taurus Customer Service over a simple part that should be in inventory and shipped out to you within a week or two. Spend money shipping a firearm back to the mothership, and 3 months later getting that same firearm back 'supposedly' repaired, and find they did a mediocre job, at best, along with packing what I could only call 'monkey snot' in the trigger assembly and around the firearm for protection, and you will understand my feelings toward Taurus Customer Service.

Down to one Taurus firearm, a 605, and that is it. I got it in a trade, and if it did not fit a niche, I would not of accepted it in trade. BELIEVE ME, I inspected it with a fine tooth comb before I did accept it.

I haven't ordered anything from them in a couple of years but when I did i always got my parts in a timely manner, all these customer service problems I've been reading about is making me think twice about purchasing another Taurus. I'm not a very patient person when I have to wait on parts. I understand that under our current situation a couple of extra days may be in order but some of the time frames I've read about is downright criminal.it's hard to hold their feet to the fire when they won't answer the phone
Taurus will have to do better before I buy another. I own four and yet i have not needed to send one back to the mothership. Someone needs to get a handle on this problem

Eh Guess I am lucky only had to deal with Taurus few occasions, of course I do a ton of cross reference, revolvers pretty much cross over Charter/Smith/Wesson/Taurus/Ruger parts can be interchangeable or modified for fit yes it is a PIA checking looking and searching. But beats waiting

I'm kinda surprised they would send you an internal part instead of insisting you send in the revolver, for them to replace the part themselves. Did you get your 856 with the one year warranty or the "new" lifetime warranty?

Further update. I was able to contact Taurus today. Now it appears the part is not in inventory at all and they don’t have a time frame for when they will get the part in. I’m surprised they don’t have any old defunct 856s that have been parted out for parts or something. Oh well. I’ll just try again at the end of summer.

Sometimes, I think the parts department in Brasil hires the lowest bidder to ferry parts to Miami (used to be) now Georgia.

Indigenous Tribes from the Amazon River are usually the successful bidders, and they still use canoes and outriggers to paddle against the currents of the Atlantic! Then you have to hope Clarence the Cross eyed Brasilian shipped the right parts, which he gets right about 1 out of 25 times.

I keep telling youse guys its the rapids on the Amazon, the boats keep hititng the rapids and sinking, along with Pirranah being in the river no delivery guy in his right mind will go into the water to retrieve the parts.

Ok! I think I see the problem. I have a friend who has an 85 and we compared our two revolvers today. We swapped the cylinder stop plunger with spring assembly just to see if it really is a bad plunger that is the issue. Nope. Doing that still didn’t raise the cylinder stop on mine. But my cylinder stop assembly DID raise the cylinder stop when inserted into his 85 and worked perfectly. So the problem isn’t a bad cylinder stop plunger assembly after all. Together going over it and comparing his to mine we concluded that the cylinder stop itself (on mine) is ever so slightly misaligned with the hole in the frame. Some times I can get it to line up in which case the cylinder stop will pop up, but other times it looks like it’s in contact with the frame on the right side. Further, looking down the tube where the cylinder stop plunger fits in (on the frame) using a flashlight I think I see the cylinder stop ever so slightly leaning to one side, if that makes sense. His doesn’t quite look this way. His is more vertical looking and you can see it’s not quite in contact on either side of the cylinder stop hole on his. Mine is ever so slightly pressed up and in contact with one side of the frame.

Unfortunately he doesn’t know anything more about taking firearms apart than I do and I think I would have to open up the frame to expose the real problem (and void the warranty). I think I COULD do this, but not positive enough that I would be able to reassemble everything back together properly. How hard is it to open it up? I saw an image by image tutorial somewhere online. I might be able to find that again.

Or I could take it to a local gun Smith. They would suck because it would technically void the warranty and would cost money, but at least I would get the gun back in my lifetime.

Or I could send it back...in which case maybe I would get it back in time for my retirement party in 30 or so years. Or maybe they will just hold onto it hoping I will eventually just forget about it.

If the local 'smith could open it up and modify the part to consistently work I don't know of anyway that Taurus could figure out later that it was repaired locally.

If it requires new parts then he will be in the same, slow, boat that you're in.

I chatted with Taurus (Rossi) last week about getting a replacement front sight for my 6 month old Rossi '92 that the brass bead disappeared from...yep...backordered. Now I'm trying to figure out if I want to spend the money to buy an aftermarket sight.

#26 ·
I know it's not the same thing as waiting for parts but I had a new Rossi 3 in 357 Mag the had to be sent back for several reasons and was covered under a fairly big recall and they called and said Rossi doesn't make revolvers any more (?) but they could send me a Taurus as a replacement. I said it was ok but could I get a 4 inch barrel instead of the 2 inch (they said they didn't have a 3 inch), well they sent me a Mdl. 65. From the time the Rossi left till my FFL received the Taures was 10 months. I am very happy with the new Taurus.

Steve.........

WOW!!
so from a 357 magnum to a 38 Spl and only a ten month wait , you are very easily pleased I would say.
Kind of like the 24/7 deal, yea you can have any pistol you want as long as its a G 2 in 9 MM--LOL
but glad the new weapon is meeting your expectations.

Ummm, the Taurus Model 65 is a 357 mag, and closely resembles the S&W M 65....add a sight to it and it becomes a M 66 in both Taurus and S&W.

You can't trust Taurus International when it comes to parts.

In October of last year (2019) I ordered a model 85ss2 Yoke side plate screw. I paid for it and they took $16.40 via my Visa Debit card in 3 days.

This screw comes in 3 parts believe or not.
(1) Barrel
(2) Spring
(3) Pin

After waiting 2 months I received the Pin in the mail. Called Customer service and was told the Barrel & Spring was out of stock and would be shipped as soon as they received a new shipment.

It is now July 19, 2020 and I have still not seen hide nor hair of the Barrel & Spring.

Call Taurus ever once in a while and are always told that they are out of stock and will send the parts as soon as stock is replenished.

Needless to say I don't think much of Taurus International.
