Hi folks!

Saw this on Cheaper Than Dirt, under their 9mm ammo sales, at less than 13 bucks a box. It is explained to be a round designed for the SAS, for use in "urban environments".

It is explained to be running @ 1320 fps.

Has anyone used this ammo, and if so, how did it perform in your firearm? I don't want to blow up my precious digi-camo BHP MK III!!

Thanks!!

" High velocity standard pressure load is safe for use in all modern firearms."

The odds of your pistol "blowing up" is so unlikely as to be non-existant.

"to be used in applications where low ricochet bullets are a necessity, such as Urban Combat. "

The ammo most likely has a frangible bullet that disintegrates on anything other than a soft target. Penetration will probably be lacking.

Frangible ammo would be my last choice for an SD round.

well the 9mm 115 grain is not exactly the best man stopper out there , so i would think the 95 grain would be even less desirable.
Personally i like and use any modern design hollow point in 124 grain as a self defense round and feel a well placed shot is not likely to exit with to much velocity to really be bouncing around that much if it is a shoot thru.
it being sold at 13 bucks a box indicates what a lot of people seem to think of it.
research the ballistics/Saami pressure rating and energy of it.

:guns: Isn't the 95 gr round 380 ammo. A couple of months ago I ordered 500 rounds of S+B 115 gr ammo from cabela's, One of the boxes was browning 9 mm which is 380 ammo. However I didn't catch it till i had a problem at the range. I had the wife load her own mags, The first round fired the second failed to feed, My wife was like WT heck, I took a look and realized it was 380 ammo...

yep! thats the right weight for the 380, an more than likely it is a round designed for the 380.
of course the diameter is the same although 380 projectiles are normally a little shorter than true 9 mm projectiles.
If I remember correctly though the 380 projectile should be long enough to seat in a 9mm case.
never tried it and just going from memory.
of course at 1300 FPS it moving faster than out of a 380, which can be good or can be bad.
generally good self protetcion round will provide good expansion, good penetration and very good energy transfer into the target.
you try for all three, hope for two of them and never rely on just one of them!

In terms of it's performance...well, if it was truly developed for the SAS/SBS, I'd say it's quite effective as a self-defense round, in the environment for which it was designed. However, I also have to say that most of the folks who've never shot it maintain that a 95gr, 9mm bullet is ineffective as an SD round--and I try never to completely discount the opinions of keyboard commandos or water-jug physicists.
Well, "Darling" ...

I've shot more than my share of 9mm over the years and a 95 grain JSP would be at the bottom of my list of desirable 9mm SD ammo, even below 147 grain FMJ, made for the SAS/SBS or not.

But what do I know, I'm just a girl. :(
And the point of that statement is ... ? :)

Oh Behave! Seriously!

I recently tested a sample of it for a Member of our Club's Range. Test Firearms were my Taurus PT92 and a Marlin Camp Carbine.

The design was an attempt to limit penetration with a lighter bullet for urban areas. Pressure levels are quite normal for both US and European 9mm Ammunition. Not into the +P range. Quality of manufacture seemed very good.

The Soft Point/Core is intended to expand as the Europeans seem to have an un-natural abhorance of Hollow-Pointed Ammunition. Usage was intended for Handguns and SMG's, so chambered. I doubt that it could damage a Browning High Power or most any other modern handgun.

May be Surplus now due to obsolescence, as Terrorists and other Nasty's will occasionally use Body Armor. Improved Frangibles such as RPD brand Ammunition may also be in use. While it's use as defensive ammunition may not be up to current standards, I could see it employed by some who are concerned with overpenetration. There is no one perfect bullet.

Also, there is really nothing new or odd about the lighter 85 to 100 grain Bullet weights in 9mm, as they used to be more popular back in the early 1970's. A U.S. company called Super Vel used to market light bulleted 9mm. Aguila currently markets an 88 grn Hollow Point which develops 1500 fps. I still have some in my Ammo Stock. Not crazy about it as I prefer the 9mm CCI 124 grn +P Gold Dot.

I don't see where I have mis-behaved in any way, but it if makes you feel better, consider me sitting in the floor soaking wet from a bucket of cold water. :)

Super vel, man thats a flash from the past for sure!
we are now showing our age!
I really wouldn't see any need for a 95 grain projectile to be a plus p loading out of a 9mm.
I didn't realize that the ammo in question was a soft point actually, figured with the passion for expansion that it would naturally be a hollow point.
thanks for the info.
man it sure is getting crowded down here in the dungeon, hard to target practice with all these people down here!
seems that the floor is wet as well for some reason!-LOL

I bought a 1000 rounds some years ago of a 100 gr round loaded to around 1500 fps. Shot some one a carbine, and traded the rest off for a 3 legged, blind, deaf dog.
I'm thinking it was German, but not sure. It did say for use in quality pistols, didn't wanna try that tho.
