Hey everyone. Currently I have a 24/7 OSS .40 that I am looking to sell to get a .45 (manufacturer unknown) and I have someone that wants to trade me a PT1911 straight across for the OSS. What are the pros/cons of this trade assuming that condition of his 1911 is close to equal of mine?

Thanks

You're losing 4 rounds in capacity, and the 24/7 Pro is very ergonomic.

For the PT1911, you're getting a great platform that has been around a very long time. Very solid.

The 4 rounds doesn't bother me either. In fact, it was in 2008 that I traded in my 24/7 Pro 45acp to help pay for my PT1911 ALR, and I've never looked back. It's my favorite, go-to pistol bar none.

If you need parts for a 1911 even a PT1911 they are readily available. 24/7 parts are only available from Taurus and they severely restrict what they will sell.

Hey thanks everyone! I am going to make the plunge and take the deal. The gentlemen is an armed security guard and this is his weapon. He has had the Series 80 deletion completed, a Hogue wraparound grip, night sights, 2 mags and 50 rounds of hollow point defense rounds. He is also throwing in a Nighthawk level 2 holster. Here is a pic of said gun.

After seeing the pic, Definitely make the trade. Worst case scenario, you can pay a smith to restore the 80 series functionality and you have a used 1911 probably worth in the 650-700+ range given the add ons. on it's best day, the 24/7 OSS might be bought new for 600.

Pros vs cons-- The 24/7 has a higher capacity, its Sa/Da, has a decocker.
cons its not a 1911!-LOL
seriously now!
its an all metal gun so is heavy, likely both guns will weigh near the same once loaded however.
I own a 24/7 OSS D/S in 45 and honestly mine shoots pretty much right here with the majority of my 1911's, now it will not shoot with a few of the 1911's like the Dan Wesson, Springfield Range Officer, the Colt Governemnt Elite, but then those guns are twice the price of the 24/7 as well.
Money wise ona trade the 1911 is likely about 100 bucks better than the 24/7 , mostly due to the night sites, this assumes they still have a good life span to them, if not they are a 100 dollar liability(to replace). The
PT1911 in blue sales for 579 here new, you can't find a new 24/7 OSS D/S so hard to compare that between the two.
I don't think that you will be hurt making the trade as long as the 1911 passes all the safety checks .
IF familair with the 1911 and taurus will sale the parts to restore the 80 system it shouldn't be that much money!
2 levers, a small spring and a metal plunger!

Well I took the plunge and made the trade. Overall I am very pleased with the weapon and I know it's something that I will be able to pass onto my kids and down. I am happy with the .45 as well, since I do reloading with my dad and .40 was damn near impossible to find. Plus the wife loves to shoot .45 so it's a win/win. There is some slight rubbing of the blue but that's to be expected. Hell the Blackhawk Level 2 SERPA holster he threw in is worth a decent amount as well. It came with 2 Chip McCormick mags (8 round and 10 round) and a box of 50 hollow points. All in all I can't really complain. I LOVED that OSS and if I can find one in .45 in the future I will definitely grab it, but for now this 1911 is my go to gun. I am going to go shooting this Saturday and will post results.

Thanks again everyone for your input

i'm a addict, a 1911 addict i think you made a good trade. if there is a frame slot blank installed to replace the saftey levers i would check the blank every 1000 rds. and dress the holes, unless you plan on replacing the levers. olfarhors can fill you in on the next meeting time and location.

You did good, but I believe you will miss the OSS. Do try to find one in 45 as it would compliment the 1911 also in 45. I have both and until I got my PT1911, the OSS was my favorite gun to shoot. Now it comes in second place. Wish they still made the OSS.

It's an apples and oranges question. You need one of each.
