Will the Pachmayr Decelerator grips fit a Taurus 66?

6015 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Jkwas
I recently purchased a new Taurus 66 Stainless with 6 inch barrel. The grips that came on it are ok, but I prefer something a little softer. I have shot a Smith and Wesson 686 that had Pachmayr Decelerator grips on it and really liked them. Anyone tried these on a Taurus 66? If so, what SW grip size does the Taurus 66 correspond with? Thanks in advance.

Pachmayr used to make a grip for the Taurus M66. I'd call them direct to be sure that the grips would fit the gun. A tip, have the gun in front of you when you call. That way if they have any questions about the gun that might affect the model of grip you are ready to answer them.

Usually the two companies grips aren't compatible due to screw locations.

Thanks for the reply. You were right about the screw locations. After shooting it some more, I am just going to stick with the factory grips, for now.
The pachmayr site specifies that the decelerator fits taurus large frames. The Hogue site states that the same grip fits the medium and large frame square butt.
You might want to check some more, but I read this to mean that the medium and large frame taurus revolvers use the same grips.
Midway usa catalogs the gripper for the 66

The decelerator is the same as the gripper, but made of a softer rubber.
I use the gripper on my model 10 S&W and find it to be more than adequate, and I also have the Hogue but find the Pachmayr allows you to go higher on the backstrap and is much more comfortable.
Hope this helps.
