Why I carry.

I carry because:
- I am my own first responder.
- A 250 pound officer weighs more than 3 to 4 pounds of handgun and backup ammunition.
- The Second Amendment to the constitution allows me the right to keep and bear arms that shall not be infringed.
- Arizona law allows me to carry either open or concealed. And, I do have an Arizona Concealed Carry Permit.
- If the bad guys can have a gun illegally, I will carry legally to defend myself, and others if needed.
- My average draw time and shoot time is under 3 seconds. Calling 9-1-1 for an officer to respond can take 20 or more minutes.
- Terminal ballistics is faster and more effective than the criminal justice system in taking care of criminals.

I carry because my safety and my family's safety is MY responsibility, first and foremost. I'm the first responder.

I'm guessing that's how an anti-2A would see this. It would be much more effective if it were a modern, normal-looking person. As it is, it's great for preaching to the choir and not much else.

First and foremost......Because I can.

Secondly, the older I get the less I trust the people. Just leave me the hell alone. I'm starting to get too old to fist fight or run.

Learned from a now-departed highway patrolman: It's easier to testify at an inquest than a trial.

This. My knees are shot, so I can't run, and a younger man would surely be able to outlast me in a fight.

Personally, I'm too poor to be able to afford to hire a competent security force to protect me, so I guess I will have to continue to take care of myself.

^This, and 2 additions, one which was already mentioned.

1. My knees are gone also. I mean, like really gone. From my body gone. I have 2 Stryker Marathon Knee replacement prosthetics on both R and L sides. While I can walk with authoritative rapidity, and stand and work for 12+ hours (a chef requirement) my actual sprinting days are over.

2. And most importantly: I refuse to be a victim, or my family to be victims. Woe and wrath, and that with great haste, will be to those who would attempt to make it so.

I"m too old to believe in fairy tales by the Grimms, Perrault, or liberal fools who think they can legislate the world into a safe place.

Gun laws are like padlocks -- they're really only effective against the people who won't challenge them.

Gun free zones aren't, 'safe spaces' are illusions for the naive, and SCOTUS has ruled the police cannot be held to a duty to actually protect anyone, even against a known threat.

With all this in mind, a gun is the most efficient way to say, "Leave me the hell alone," to someone who thinks the laws don't apply to them.

I carry for the same reason that I would own a parachute if I worked or lived in a high-rise building (and would take one as carry on, on commercial flights if they would allow it) - it is far better to have and not need, than need and not have. If such a circumstance as need and not have ever arose, your chances of ever needing again would be slim...

I have been a counselor for 29 years, I have worked in a prison setting for 23 years now. I have met and talked to those who do not care about others. I understand at a level that some people do not care to that I may have to at some point in time be there first responder. I want to be responsible for myself and my family and the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights gives me that opportunity.
