First Generation

  • The guns were marked only as Millennium
  • All were DAO

Second Generation

  • The guns were marked as Millennium Pro
  • Magazines were modified and will not interchange with First Generation models

Third Generation

  • The word "Pro" was moved from the left side where it read "Millennium Pro" to the right side where it reads "PT145 Pro"
  • The sights are dovetailed into the slide rather than screw mounted
  • The guns are now SA/DA rather than the traditional DAO

You forgot to say that the 2nd Gen. Mill Pro's were still DAO.

The first gen. .45's had problems with cracked frames at the top rear end. Also did not feed as reliable as the 2nd and 3rd gen. due to the mags and feed ramps being different.

Some 3rd gens. had problems with light primer strikes when shooting in double action mode.

I've had all 3 models and prefer the 2nd gen which I still own in both 9mm and .45 stainless. They are shown below in the middle row along with a few other tools.

They have never given me one problem. I've also had other 2nd gens. in the past of Mill Pro's and 24/7's which also performed flawlessly.

Just joined the forum, been lurking for almost 2 months, researching...

I just bought a 3rd Gen PT145 SS through a dealer on GunBrokers for 325.00 SN says it was manufactured in 2013 according to Taurus's SN lookup webpage. I hope that mine comes with good mags. I did alot of searcjing on the PT145 and it looked like the most common issue was the old mags had 10 coil mag springs. As well there seemed to ne a bad batch of magazine followers. Then Taurus came out with 8 coil springs and updated followers in 2011...Its being delivered to my FFL dealer, I hope to have it Saturday, if not then Ill have to wait till Tuesday the 3rd :(

Current guns are:
Springfield XDm 40 3.8
S&W SD40 VE
Kahr Arms CW4543
Bersa Ultra Compact Pro 45ACP
Weatherby PA-459 12G

Future guns:
Taurus PT145 SS (145SSP)
Kahr Arms CM4543
M4 Carbine

Welcome from Texas and congrats on the PT145! You can't go wrong with any of the Millennium guns. I love my PT145, too, and am waiting for Taurus to make the PT145 G2.

Taurus released the PT145 G1 a couple of years after they released the PT111 G1 & PT140 G1 probably to make sure everything was OK with the 9mm and .40SW before they made the .45ACP version. Now that the PT111 G2 has been available for a while and the PT140 G2 will be available soon according to the Taurus USA website, I am seeing the PT145 G2 next.

I have been messing with the first three letters trying to come up with a logical method to determine year and month...

From what I have researched the first letter is the caliber, the second letter is the year and third letter is for the month...

So with a SN of NEX57___, the N is 45ACP, the E is 2013, so what month would the X be?

That's one many of us here would like to know. Not even any rumors, that I know of.
