Which ammo for PT145 for reliability during conceal carry?

1640 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  firemax
I just bought a PT145 pro to be used as my conceal carry weapon. I am new to Taurus. Is there a consensus on a reliable ammo for the PT145? I want as little chance for FTF as possible.

Thanks

Walmart Winchester White Box JHP worked fine for me -at-the-range-.

Your mileage may vary.
Out of 500 rounds, I have had no FTF or FTE. For range use, I have shot 185gr Lawman and Blazer, and 230gr Concho. It fed all of them. I also shot a few magazines of my carry ammo, 185gr Gold Dot. I have two boxes of Wolf that I'm going to try for range use. I use 185gr to get a little extra velocity from the shorter barrel, but am also thinking of testing the new 230gr Federal HST. I think any premier ammo brand would feed well. Research and find out what ammo has the ballistics you are looking for and buy a box of each and test fire them for reliability.
Thanks for the info guys.

In reference to the 185gr vs 230gr, do you notice any difference in accuracy?
I get about the same accuracy from both.

Thanks DevilDog a& NYPD in AZ. I read a lot of info from the link and also from Yahoo search. It seems that I may be interested in the following ammo for my PT145 pro when I conceal carry...

45 ACP Corbon DPX 160gr. HP

I just want to make sure that this is not a high-pressure load. I don't want to void my warranty. Is the following statement made by SteelHeart from another thread accurate? Is the DPX 160gr a standard load? It appears that it is, I just want to be sure as I have no intention of using a P+ load. If the DPX 160gr is standard pressure, I think I will give it a try.

A side note on the DPX, the 160gr load is tested out of a 3" barrel and I think it was designed for shorter barreled guns. Plus its a standard pressure load. The 185 gr load is tested out of a 5" barrel and it +P.

The Cor-Bon DPX 160 grain is a standard pressure load.

Thanks. I will give it a try then. I just called a local gun shop and they stock this ammo. Excellent.
WANTED TO DROP A LINE ON THIS, PER SOME OF THE ARTILCES I HAVE READ THE 165 COR-BONS, DID NOT CYCLE THE PT145 WELL, I TRIED SOME 20 OF THE COR-BON AND 20 OF THE HORNADY CUSTOM 200G JHP/XTP, IN THE CORBON 20 I HAD ONE FTE ON THE FIRST MAG 5TH SHOT, AND ON THE TAP HAD NONE. I TO WILL BE CARRYING MY PT145 AS MY CC, BY THE WAY, THE WEAPON WAS CLEAN STARTED WITH THE COR-BON AND THEN THE HORNADY 200, THEN FINISHED THE DAY WITH MAGTECH 230GR NO FTF OR FTE, ABOUT 140 BETWEEN ALL 3 TYPES. I FELT LESS RECOIL WTIH THE 165GR AND WAS ABLE TO COME BACK TO TARGET ALITTLE FASTER,SO MAYBE ALITTLE BETTER GROUPING, BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE THE, IT WOULD BE THE HORNADY CUSTOM 200 JHP/XTP.JG

Thanks weaponizer. I'll pick up a box of Hornady 200 JHP/XTP and give it a try.
