The Democrat debates illustrated one thing over and over again. They are out to grab guns and prohibit gun sales for law abiding citizens through new laws and areas where guns are legally sold instead of focusing on the criminals. More extensive background checks? Gun shows? Confiscation or stopping sales altogether? Taxation?

Yep, and with how much they are screaming and hollering and virtue signaling we will likely see some form of gun control pass. The shooting has been loud enough to cause companies to change policies, CEOs to send a letter to Washington.
And we continue with the same old routine. We talk amongst like minded people, we write or call our reps and then we go to work.
Because we're afraid of looking like crazy people we're don't protest, or march, and we don't scream and holler. We talk rationally and present facts while they lie and inflate statistics to create their propaganda.
We can't win this way.
I listen to us talk about keeping our guns even if they try to pass laws and I think of the song by Rush..... The Red Barchetta. Substitute the car for a gun and the line "from before the motor laws" to "from before the gun laws" and it could be predicative of gun owners futures in the US.
I don't have the answer for what to do, but I see the direction things are heading and don't like it.

It’s never really been a question about where actual criminals get their guns. But there are a couple of flaws to the data

- first off, it’s fact-based data. Facts aren’t really a part of the anti-Constitutionalist talking points. Reality isn’t a starting point for their agenda. If it were, there would be way more outcry over the fact that students are FAR more at risk from being in the car with their parents than from a school shooter. Children face a higher likelihood of dying in their childhood from the chemicals in the kitchen cabinet than from all firearms combined throughout their life. Swimming pools in the backyard are deadlier than any firearm in the hands of any criminal.

- second, the focus on a minuscule portion of the problem guarantees their proposal, if enacted, will be insufficient. Which will provide the rationale for further restrictions (of course, without relieving the ones that DIDN’T work). The futile restrictions will just be, in their own words, ‘a good starting point’ toward their ultimate goal.

My thoughts — it will be an insurance lever that will be used to force people to choose to give up their guns. Especially if healthcare comes under the auspices of the government. Insurance costs will be used to justify dunning gun owners extra-high premiums to ‘offset’ costs associated with criminals using guns. People will be faced with choosing either economic hardship, going without insurance, or giving up their guns.

Unless, of course, they are wealthy, or are in the government with taxpayers funding their insurance.

The anti-Constitutionalist hounds have the scent and they see the chance to slip through a crack in the pro-2nd Amendment wall that's been opened for them by the combined weight of Trump Derangement Syndrome and the NRA's poorly-timed travails. The yellow dog folks know it's the best time to turn the tragedies to their political advantage and I really don't think a token restrictive adjustment to the already infringed 2nd Amendment is going to get them to stop, sniff themselves, and go back to their kennels.

A certain number will vote democrat just because the candidate is a democrat (the 'yellow dog' democrats). Another group will vote democrat just because Trump has an 'R' after his name. Those people are a lock for the dems.

The ones the democrats need to work on are the ones who are on the fence and they see gun control as one of the levers they can use to pry some of those people off the fence and down on the democrat side. The house of reprehensibles, under the dems led by Nancy P. is more than willing to pass gun control legislation they know is so onerous it will never get through the senate or signed by Trump because doing so lets them point across the aisle and screech about how the republicans just don't care about children dying or are so gun-crazy they'd rather see killers rampaging through our public places than accept some 'reasonable' gun control measures.

The 2020 election is coming, gun control is going to be a huge issue this time, and I'm afraid we've gotten to a rock and a hard place.

Republicans who stand on principle regarding the 2nd Amendment might be vulnerable. As much as we want to say, 'Hold the line,' it's an inescapable possibility that doing so might wind up turning congress, and maybe the presidency, over to the dems.

Then we can pretty much start honing our, 'Back in my day,' stories for the grandkids, because the stories are what will be left.

The appointment of federal judges and SCOTUS justices that hold to Originalism or at least Strict Constructionism is vital to the long term survival of the Constitution and our rights.

This is one area in which Trump has had tremendous success and, I believe, why a 2nd term is critical. We've got to get those good judges in there at all levels to fend off the Socialists and Commies. I'm fairly optimistic, especially if there is a 2nd term and the GOP holds the Senate.

Those freakshows in Congress can pass laws all day long and some bozo in the Oval might have a pen and a phone, but they can't and won't get past a judiciary branch that has integrity and cajones. The Constitution is the Constitution and these people can't change it just because they don't like it. But again, we need judges that see the Constitution in that light.
