Michael Bane has it on his blog.

This could prove to be quite interesting.

Has anyone else heard this?

I hadn't heard anything until you mentioned it.

A quick scan of Colt's various websites doesn't give anything.

Here's some forum threads that I dug up quick, appears that they know about what we do.

Since there has been rumors of Colt's demise for several years the fact that someone bought them would not surprise me. But I'd think that Colt would still take a good chunk of change, just for the name if nothing else (and that sounds like about all that Colt left has from the Colt forum thread).

Guess we'll wait and see.

It will be interesting to see if it pans out. From what I've seen on several other boards most think it's an April Fools joke. Stranger things have happened lately.

Oh what a bitter blow to the Colt snob if true. :D

That's precisely what I thought. The Colt-types would have a collective seizure.

On one hand, I'd hate to see another U.S. firearm manufacturer do this, but on the other, Colt has been ignoring (and has actually been hostile to) the civilian market. I'd love to see what Taurus could do with it, though. Taurus has successfully brought out a 1911, I bet they'd make a decent AR-15. ;D

Oh yeah.
I'd love to see the return of the Anaconda, only perhaps this time in some other flavors as well in addition to .44 Magnum -- Offerings in .454 Casull, .480 Ruger, .460 S&W and .500 S&W Magnum would be fantastic.

Is that just the firearms section? Colt Industries is a big conglomeration.
Much of the big conglomeration was sold to Goodrich several years back. Anthing to do with aerospace or aircraft was sold. Several of the profitable machine tolls plants were sold, also. I worked for one of the machine tools companies.
Frankly, the firearms division was left alone because Goodrich didn't pursue it.

This seems to come around about every eight months or so.

As much as I would like it, I doubt it. I understand the state in which Colt corporate is located owns a majority stake. But fresh blood might do some good - might even cause some 'classic' Colts to come out of the 'plans safe' and back into production. I'd buy a brand new Colt Python (properly price-pointed that is) and I'm not even a big revolver guy. How about updated versions of the 19xx series pocket autos? The Colt Detective. The imagination soars...

...but then I come to ground with a thud - this is one of those evergreen rumors. Sigh.

Kansas-plainsman is right. This is just rumor and has made the rounds every so often and have seen this many times at other forums.

Speaking of rumors try this old chestnut out for size. This one has been making the rounds for a few years( make that since 2002) at the forums and put out by " in the know cause my gun store clerk,.etc, knows so".

Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all, if Taurus did buy Colt! I own Colts but am no Colt Snob!

I have three Colts, a 1911, a King Cobra, and a MKV Trooper. The Revolvers are excellent handguns, just almost too collectible to shoot much, but I still do shoot them. Colt has seriously neglected the civilian market, as has been mentioned. The only real reason for their current survival are Military Contracts for the M16/M4. In my opinion, Taurus makes a better 1911, and they would probably make better M16/M4's. Rack Grade Military issue M16/M4's are nothing to write home about! (Barrel Quality is sorely lacking!) They actually do abetter job on AR15's.

JWC007 is correct. Colt makes excellent guns and has neglected the civilians. If you go to the Colt website there is one for Military and police( us civies need not apply, thankyou very much) and the other tab at the first site gets one to the few Colt's available to the public. This is the civie site.
