When I had been married less than a year I told the wife that I was buying her a shotgun to shoot trap with. She was pretty good at it and had mentioned that it would be nice if she didn't have to use my 12ga. That next Christmas I handed her a new Winchester single shot 20ga. She went ballistic and over the years gave me much grief for what she considered an unforgivable act of buying a gun for myself and trying to give it to her for Christmas. I was totally innocent. That shotgun is still around and she's been gone for almost 15 years. I am a lucky man indeed and the shotgun now belongs to our son.
