What to shoot today?

I'm off to the range today, but I still haven't decided what to shoot!

I haven't shot the S&W 66 in a while. But I've shot it a ton over the years. I've been enjoying the Model 14 I got in the past year. But then again I have a bunch of ammo for the Blackhawk and I did shoot my best-ever group of 25 rounds with it.

I have a bunch of 9mm reloads I ought to shoot up. But to be honest I just don't care for the 9mm 1911. I like the .45, but not the 9mm so much. It's the cartridge not the gun. I'll have to either sell my 9mm 1911 or convert it to .38 Super. I have a bunch of .45 ammo too. I like the Kimber .45.

What a great idea!! I have not had my AR9 out in a few months, nor my HiPoint 995TS in at least 9 months... I guess I'll make it PCC day at the range!

Maybe you should just go to the range and ten just rent some that you don't own! Then they all will be new to you, no repeats.

I'd just throw several in the vehicle and start shooting when I got there and try to beat my last groups. I don't shoot against anyone but myself and I seem to keep improving over time and I keep tweaking my powder loads to try to improve my loads sometimes.1or.2 tenths can pull the group tighter or it may go the other way but you will know that you've gone last that loads sweet spot. Just shoot have fun and be safe.

I have the same problem quite often!
this week I had every intention to take the AR-15 to the range and shoot it as I haven't shot it in a looong time.
came range travel time and opened the safe and the CZ 97 was looking at me!
yea-- Took the old 45 and had a blast, also took one of the Beretta Neos that hasn't been shot in a long time, so at least I got one shot that had cobwebs in the bore.
I tell ay that 97 will absoulutley ruin you on 1911's.

Well I took the 1911 9mm. Disappointing as usual. Maybe I should trade it in on a CZ...
Sometimes, I have the urge to go shooting, with nothing particular in mind. I feel like I should shoot them all! But then, I don't like cleaning firearms as much as I used to. Decisions, decisions.

What is it specifically you don't like about the 9mm 1911? I have had quite a few & most have been good, fun guns to shoot.

Accuracy. I get all these wild flyers. I can usually call my shots pretty well, I know when I pull something. But this 1911 will shoot well then inexplicably throw shots in no particular direction but mostly high or low. With most of my favorite guns I shoot pretty much round groups and occasionally throw one a bit off more than the rest. But this guns seems to shoot great and then goes completely wild. All the while it all feels right to me.

Now I'm using lead bullets and legend has it that the 9mm is notoriously difficult to wring accuracy from with lead bullets. I've tried fast powders, slow powders, various weights and various diameters. All for naught. Factory jacketed ammo seems much better but still not up to my other guns. But that is moot because if I can't shoot lead I'm not interested.

I thought for a while it was just that I am mostly a revolver guy but then I got a Kimber 1911 in .45 ACP which seems to shoot very close to what I can do with my revolvers. Not quite as good, but close.

So it's either the gun or the ammo. I could have the gun looked at but geez I've already put a ton of effort into it all for naught. It's a Springfield loaded target, supposed to be one of their better fitted guns. As far as range guns go it's just not working for me. I'm going to go shoot up what factory ammo i have and see it it improves.

I always shoot at the same distance (15 yards) at the same targets to keep the comparison valid. The target is a 4" bullseye (or a 3" with a ring out at 4") on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. With this 9mm I'll shoot 25 rounds and 20 of them will be where they are supposed to be, with five wildly out. Sometimes it's one at a time. Sometimes it's all five in a row. Still on the paper, but anywhere from 2" out to all the way up at the top or bottom an inch from the edge.

With one of my revolvers I'll miss narrowly once or twice and frequently have targets where all are in the 4". The K-38 is new to me but on it's second outing I had two targets in a row with all 50 rounds touching the 3" and I've done that with my Blackhawk too. But those are rare. Keeping them all in the 4" isn't.

I want a 1911 that will shoot like this.... (I haven't shot the Kimber much but I've kept them all in the four inches once.)

The range down the street from me - which I went to most over many years - closed back in Feb.

Now, it's more of a logistical deal if I want to shoot. But I need to do it one of these days.

Yeah that's a drag! There is a range about 1/2 hr from me that I shoot at and so does Czechbikr. We Feared that it was going to close early last spring as the owner wanted out and to retire. Well it turned out a very nice younger guy bought him out and is keeping it open.

You and actually all of us need to get out and support these small shops before they are gone and we find we have no place to go!

well IF I had a 9 MM 1911 thats likely what I would do.
got 3 CZ in 9 MM , one in 45 acp, two Tanfiglio in 38 Super and two in 10 MM. they are more addictive to me than 1911's.
the range/gun shop had a visit from the CZ Fairy, they got P-10c, sp-01, P-01, 75 b, chrome, 75 B, stainless 75 B, 75 B with Omega trigger systems. 97 both BD and safety.
its a virtual CZ playground!

Its got to be everywhere!
there is no way this stuff just happens at my range!
was down yesterday testing out the 223 rounds that I loaded with my new Lee Powder Drum measure.
in comes this guy and heads to the far right lane, I am in the far left lane and this is the rifle side.
anyway he has on a law enforcement type setup, flashlight, mag pouches, holster, cuff holder etc-etc et.
he runs the target back to 7 yards and begins very rapid triple taps.
he is all over the target and several not making hits at all.
this goes on for quite a while. he then leaves the lane, I assume that he has shot up his ammo and is going home--NO!!
he has gone outside and got one of the employees to come in and help him.
He says (I have electronic muffs) so I can hear him talking with the employee (who is also a instructor), he says wonder IF you will watch me shoot and give me some pointers.
the employee says I was watching you through the video camera as you shot.
what you need to do is slow down, your weapon is not under control.
the guy says well yea but I want to be fast, I have certification coming up to get the job (homeland Security) .
the employee says well are you required to shoot that fast?
well NO but I want to be the fastest shot there!
employee says well typically only shots that hit are counted.
OH OK, well I still want to be the fastest shot there.
OK, so now I sleep a lot better at night!

I should have such problems.
Exactly! :)
I'm headed to the range just shortly. I only have a 9mm and a 45 with which to practice.
