Well, I been needing something around here to take care of some varments!
This will be great.

I bought a Crossman Nitro Venom Dusk.
It's a break barrel rifle with a Nitro piston, and comes with a 3-9x32mm scope.
Perfect for the @#% woodpeckers that have caused $1,500. worth of damage to my house.
There also seems to be a growing population of tree rats around me.

No ammo shortage here, $6.40 got me 500 rounds! Well, until they put a ban on lead anyway.
Can't wait to shot it and break it in. Still looking it over. I need to mount the scope, and give it a good cleaning.
I ordered a .177 boresnake for air rifles, but it has not come in yet.

Next, I need to put some suet up in the yard to pull those pesky birds in.

Come on now pics then range report please.
Gotta love a good break barrel spring-air rifle. I've got an old Gamo that's still kickin'. The velocity has fallen off over the years - I get 850 fps through the chrono these days, and it used to be 1000. I did find that if I shoot a little WD40 into the bore and swab it with a patch, the next pellet comes out at 1150 fps, but it drops right back down to 850 after the barrel is squeegeed by a pellet. But that one pellet at 1150 sounds just like a 22 lr. Something to keep in mind if you're using Raptor pellets or the like. Don't want the neighbors thinking your shooting a 22 in the back yard. Unless of course that's okay where you live. JAT

Finally, got the scope on, but too dark to go plinking outside now.
Just as well though, as I do want to clean it before I shoot it.

Here's a few pics. I got a good deal on it, only $149. The scope is OK too, like that it is a variable, and even comes with lens covers. It's a CenterPoint Scope.

HAven't shot it yet, but from what I have read about this rifle, and also from the owners manual, it is as loud as a 22LR for the first 100 shots, until it is broke in some, then it is supposed to quiet down considerably.

Anything that breaks the speed of sound is going to sound like a 22. That's why I mentioned the Raptor pellets - they're made out of some kind of alloy, and they're much lighter than lead pellets which pumps up the muzzle velocity significantly. Beeman makes their Kodiak line of pellets, and I've used them with good results. They're heavier (and slower) than normal pellets, and they penetrate well. I shot a lot of them in my 22 cal side-cocker, and the weight on them was over 20 grains. The .177 variety are 10.65 grains compared to the normal 7 or so grains. Kodiak Extra Heavy Pellets

I'm very curious how the piston rifles work vs the standard spring. I have a cheapo break barrel .177 Crossman I got at Wallyworld for $120. When I had the scope dialed in, birds were no match shooting across my neighbors yard, into their neighbors yard, at least 120' away. Rabbits drop in the blink of an eye.
Looks great! Thanks for the pix and let us know how it shoots. Have started looking into air guns -holy cow, soooo much to learn!! My desire is to have something that is relatively quiet so we can shoot it on our farmette without the neighbors having a canary! 15 acres just isn't big enough for shooting regular firearms -and besides, airgun pellettes are easy to find -unlike 22lr!!

I didn't want to go overboard with cost for mine. Just wanted something to get the job done.
I bought mine from Cabelas. Good price too!
Most of the different reviews I read on this air rifle were very postive, and I really liked that it had a variable scope!

Rob

Also, from what I am reading, most pellet rifles are loud at first until broken in.
Thats something I have never owned but have looked at many times. Maybe its time to own one as a back up to my Rugar 10/22.
Stupid question, but is it pump or co2 powered?
I own a crossman phantom, and I will say they are definatley loud at first. I have made so many great memories shooting that rifle with my daughters that the money I paid for it seems trivial. The stock on yours is really cool, I think your gonna love it!!
I've been wanting a Nitro piston rifle for some time. Check out these pellets. I took out many pigeons (flying rats) with these. Most accurate pellets I've found.

Nitro pistons are barrel break, only 1 time.
