Two years +/- for Ioma and 1 years for Wisconsin. I am not seeing any reports which detail the statistics for violent crime in these states since they realized their constitutional rights. If there are demonstrable declines in these types of crime it is the best evidence to present to the anti-gun contingent.

Has anyone got any links to stats or articles? I did search around, not being totally lazy yet :)D) and haven't found anything.

Any Iowans or Wisconsinites to weigh in on this? I am certain that the Register and the Journal Sentinel would be loathe to report on any decrease, but has your associations got any data?

Here's the numbers for Iowa - Iowa crime statistics by year

The violent crime statistics seem to be headed downward to me, but I think it will take some time before you really see the impact. Reason I say that is, when a BG gets waxed committing a crime, they don't repeat the offense.

It is a little too early to tell, we need a downward trend over at least 5 years for it to be a really viable argument. Crime statistics will show some fluctuation in the short term regardless of legislation.

Thanks guys, interesting stuff but like it's said, not enough to provide definitive trends. Maybe better to look at a state that has legalized 5 years +/-. It would also be interesting to put the graphs against the number of firearms sold and CWP's issued.

Well I don';t have the exact numbers as of today, but a month or so ago, Wi passed MN in the number of CC permits issued in its first year of availability - MN has been in effect for 8+ years. I believe as of that time, WI had reported4 or 5 CC invilved shootings, none of which resulted in charges against shooter. They seem to be making a good stand there.

I suspect, legally armed carriers in these two states, have turned out to be more law abiding than the people of the general population. Just like most if not all the other states with concealed carry. Imagine that!

I remember how it was going to be the "Wild West" here if concealed carry passed, then if anyone (government permit or not) was allowed to carry in their vehicle, people would be getting shot for cutting someone off in traffic all the time.

What those arguments said to me at least is: that the antis feel that they are totally incapable of controlling their own actions and indeed would shoot someone over a questionable lane change and they think the rest of us would as well. Thats how I understood their argument anyway. Apparently the evidence is contrary to the antis position, generally speaking grown adults can control their actions... go figure..

Carrying has made me a better person, I do not speed near as much as I did prior to carrying, and I have not made a "Wise Crack" to a single person doing something stupid. Before my carry permit I was good for 2 or 3 "Wise Cracks" a day. Now I try to avoid any and all confrontation with people. If I don’t like what they are doing I now keep my mouth shut and leave.

I don't have any solid figures (I'll try to find some later), but, the general consensus is that the violent crimes are down where we're allowed to carry, I want to say ther's been around 9 or 10 well publicized SD scenarios played out since our CCLs and castle doctrine laws have passed. Lord only knows how many have actually happened that haven't gotten any airtime. The only time we hear about 'em is when there's a good chance the good guy is going to end up with his/her ass in a sling over what happened...and the story quickly fades away as all of the details come to light and the person is no-billed.

On a side note: I finally saw my first gunbuster sign in Rice Lake this last weekend...at a furniture and flooring shop (granted, when Act34 first passed they went up all over the place...and came right back down again as businesses figured out that by posting they were legally liable for our safety).

I have to admit, I kind of made an ass out of myself, but...it was fun and it got the point across, and I was out of my "No guns = No money" cards.

I knocked on the front entryway door and a salesman stepped out and I asked directions to the closest Menards as I needed to buy 1500 sqft of laminate flooring and 900 sqft of tile. Guy invites me to step inside and take a look at their inventory and I politely declined stating the management obviously didn't want me in there due to their magical "No weapons allowed" sign and I didn't feel like disarming to shop for flooring.

He took it like a champ though, he apologized for the inconvenience and gave me directions to Menards (I knew damn well where it was, and he knew it<g>). As the door closed I heard him holler to someone at the customer service desk that they'd just lost another customer due to the sign.

Somehow I see that sign coming down in the future.

LoL yeah, in the famous words of Bugs Bunny "Ain't I a stinker?". I'm not above calling someone out on the carpet once in a while, and as it was a 60 mile drive in subzero weather for me to get there, I figured I should at least have a little fun while getting my point across<g>

I figure if we can get an anti-gun German owned company like Aldi's to change their tune, a local flooring company should be a walk in the park.

Nice cards, I'll have to do a few tweaks to it (we're not photographed or printed) and I can easily see it added to my card carrier to hand out with the "No guns = No $$$" cards. Thanks.

On a good note, there are very few CPZs that I've personally seen. Even in Madison I would venture 95% of the businesses don't prohibit carry. The teeth they added into Act34 was a doozy. Boils down to: If you don't post, you (your company) are not liable for any misdeeds perpetrated in your business or parking lot. If you choose to post no carry you are to be held liable for any damages including anything that may happen while in the parking lot. It hasn't been put to the test yet, but, it has plenty of lawyers nervous as hell. (When was the last time you heard a lawyer recommend not posting? Happens fairly often in WI now...lovin' it)

The tables only go to 2011, which does not reflect statistics since CCW for either state. And as you state, I would not expect to see a significant change the first couple of years.

Yup. As hard as it is. Especially where you live. I dive the Keys on a fairly regular basis, and have been mistaken for a resident (I consider that a badge of honor, by the way). It's hard not to comment on the collective idiocy of some of the folks who visit the Keys on a one or two time basis. The old folks can be forgiven. The snowbirds, well, that's kind of a different situation. Do a dive charter on one of Spencer Slates boats or any of the other cattle boats, especially in the upper Keys. It would appear that a large number of the tourists drop their brains off for safe keeping somewhere in Florida City.
