The Mother of all Reasons not to Buy from Dicks Sporting Goods

The Second Amendment is clearly under attack.

Dicks Sporting Goods hires three or four gun control lobbyists. What in the hell is going on?

I really think we have to start an offensive front to stop this.

It just doesn't stop does it. I really don't see the same efforts coming from the pro-gun side that I do the anti side. There needs to be a strong offense coming from the pro gun side. I'm just not sure how that gets started. This contacting your congress critter seems so weak compared to what the left is doing.

Honestly, nothing will happen. [/rant Do you want to know why we keep electing feckless idiots to congress? Because they represent the rank and file republicans. The republicans are weak, ineffective and somewhat cowardly. That means if you registered to vote as a republican, they represent YOU. The Left will accept nothing but complete annihilation of conservatives and our Constitutional way of life and we sit around sending out emails. Christ, why not just start a Hashtag? Probably because we are just as ineffective using that method as well. We are all so convinced that we can discuss this like adults or quietly protest and that accomplishes nothing. The Left sees the republicans as mild speed bumps on their way to domination and they are right. They are unifying and fighting with everything they have and we're sitting back as if to say "there there children, lets not make a scene". Meanwhile the left continues gaining more and more control. First it was the educational system, then portions of the Gov't and then the media and now it's the financial institutions. Does anyone actually think they plan on stopping any time soon? When we fight an adversary, we respect that adversary by fighting with everything we have. The Republicans refuse to do that, instead being more reserved while getting their butts handed to them for each and every altercation. We had a statue of our very history and we had a group of folks defending it. What happened? Some numbnuts drives his car through a group of anarchists and now the defenders of history are to blame. The left is making martyrs and the right is making diapers full. Until we present a strong, unified voice of the right, we will lose everything. Start stocking up on cosmoline and maybe in future generations, the call will go out again to folks willing to take a chance at Freedom once again. /Rant off]

The offensive is on, it's just not well publicized. IIRC, the NRA has collected some 15 million since the Parkland anti-gun movement. Gun sales have skyrocketed (perhaps you've seen prices as well)? There was a very recent school walkout in support of the 2A. Dicks will lose significant business (ok, maybe not, they were too expensive anyway) and go down the tubes or become even less a market force than they were. Just because you don't see people marching in the street doesn't mean there isn't a backlash. Looks like David Hogg has sold more guns than Obama.

...and they have done what, exactly, with it? They supported the call to "ban" bump stocks. This concession is exactly the problem. These organizations that are taking our money with the proposed mission of "protecting our rights" have been the ones most willing to compromise. They need to be making a TON of noise and suing the living crap out of any entity that seeks to infringe on our rights! The left does it all the time for made up crap.

I fully agree that the time has long passed for the silent (adult) majority to remain silent and the time for quiet logical conversation has ended with a whimper. I'm not talking revolution, but a no-compromise no quarter given attitude needs to be assumed by these organizations that are claiming to protect our rights. Someone else said here in a different thread that we need to stop protecting the 2A and start growing it again. I say, Here Here!

We need to become as far right, as the left has gone far left.
Otherwise, we shift from center to left of center. Then, left of that center.

Yeah Right! I can name 3 current gun forums that absolutely prohibit any type of political discussion. Even IF it pertains to guns. Someone please tell me how this is helpful? Then I also see when someone makes a suggestion and anyone and I do mean anyone the person making the suggestion get absolutely and completely torched.

Even hear if a topic gets dicey it gets moved to a private location with special permissions needed to read it. Which is still better tan the other 3!

Whoa now. I am no fan of Dick's but it's a stretch to say "Lobbying related to gun control" is the same as "Lobbying for gun control". Maybe they will, maybe they won't. We honestly don't know what they have in mind.

There's a lot or reasons they'd hire lobbyists for that, and given they seem to still want to sell other guns I don't think they are going to push for widespread gun control or they'd have just exited the business already. I think they panicked and thought draconian measure were coming and wanted a seat at the table to try to steer the legislation so it's as favorable as possible to themselves. That's what lobbying for corporations is all about.

I'd be willing to bet that the NRA's lobbying disclosure forms say exactly the same thing.
Actually......the mother's fifth cousin's third uncle's dog's third aunt seventeen times removed's reason is good enough for me.

Like I mentioned in another thread regarding Dick's. I believe their sales over all have fallen especially gun sales and they decided to try a different approach to maybe drum up sales from the liberal crowd. I have not purchased anything from Dick's in years. The Sports Authority going out of business is the only thing keeping my local Dick's afloat.
Late today Springfield Armory announced that they have severed all ties with Dick's and their Field & Stream subsidiary.

GENESEO, IL, ( 05/03/18 ) — Springfield Armory is severing ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring a group for anti-Second Amendment lobbying.
This latest action follows Dick’s Sporting Goods’ decision to remove and destroy all modern sporting rifles (MSR) from their inventory. In addition, they have denied Second Amendment rights to Americans under the age of 21. We at Springfield Armory believe that all law abiding American citizens of adult age are guaranteed this sacred right under our Constitution.

It is clear where Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, stand on the Second Amendment, and we want to be clear about our message in response. Their position runs counter to what we stand for as a company. At Springfield Armory, we believe in the right and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question. We will not accept Dick’s Sporting Goods’ continued attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans.

Just read this in an email this afternoon. Makes me want to go buy a Springfield product, because they're not Dick's.

Dick`s is doubling down on stupid! You cant fix stupid!

Because the pro gun side doesn't have the funding or media manipulation. The NRA funding is a small portion of what is poured into anti-gun efforts by just a hand full of billionaires. No super rich are in support off gun rights because they can have whatever they want regardless of laws and a disarmed populace makes it easier for them to maintain dominance
Icing on the cake to me.

Dick's has NEVER impressed me AND they are way overpriced. Academy, on the other hand, has much better pricing.

There's 3 Dick's in the area and there's an Academy either right down the road or literally in line of sight of every one. The Academy's are much bigger, free standing stores and the parking lots are always busy. The Dicks are in a strip mall of some sort, usually shoved between the Ulta and a clothing store, and the lot in front of their door is rarely full.
How soon people forget. People will forget about Dick's and Citi and Yeti soon too.
