Okay, the very first thing I have to do is apologize for is the lack of pictures. My brother and I took my grandson to the range with us, and I was lucky to remember my Chrony.

Here goes: We were at the "plinking range" at the Red Castle Gun Club, so our targets were pretty informal and about 20 yards away. Informal? We were shooting at CDs. You know, all those free AOL CDs that keep coming in the mail? Yeah. All shots were two-handed modified Weaver with a slight crouch to shoot over the screens.

With some old Federal .38 +P 129 grain HydraShoks, I broke five out of five. Velocity was a) low 822.90, b) high 889.81, c) average 857.63, d) extreme spread 66.91, e) standard deviation 24.39. Then I moved on to some Hornady .38 non-+P 125 grain XTP/HPs. Again, it was minute of CD accurate, although one CD took three (3) hits to disintegrate. Velocity was a) low 827.74, b) high 846.38, c) average 840.98, d) extreme spread 18.64, e) SD calculation blown by operator. Then, with Remington 100 round box (WalMart) .38 +P 125 grain SJHP accuracy was not quite as good since I only hit 13 out of 15 CDs. Velocities were a) low 839.92, b) high 899.31, c) average 869.74, d) extreme spread 59.39, e) SD 20.88. Then, with some Blue Star 158 grain LSWC reloads, I got a) low 591.55, b) high 652.06, c) average 628.19, d) extreme spread 60.05, d) no SD reading due to operator error. This stuff was pretty good, accuracy-wise, but not in the same league as regular factory ammo.

Impressions: This thing recoils! It was not quite as bad as my S&W 3 inch Model 13 with Remington 125 grain SJHP .357 Magnum ammo which made the Chrony ROCK on the tripod, but it wasn't fun to shoot with the +P ammo with the stock boot grips. Surprisingly, the Hornady standard pressure 125 grain XTP/HPs were almost as fast as the +P ammo and recoiled about the same. It'll do. I'm not going to replace the grips, either, since they conceal so well.

On a side note, the Model 13's velocities with the .357 Magnum version of the 125 grain SJHP were a) low 1322.22, b) high 1396.19, c) average 1352.70, d) extreme spread 73.97, e) SD 20.78. Accuracy was GOOD. I was able to break pieces of CDs that were left standing after I hit them the first time!

These are two guns to trust with your life. I do.

I have a 605. I put the Taurus Combat Grips on. They are just a little longer and thinner. It still fits my pocket. It makes shooting 357s a lot better. Only about $9 from Taurus.
