I am taking my CCL class here in Tyler, TX this coming Saturday. I know there is a range test and a written test. Any tips to pass along?

I'd suggest a few extra rounds, even if they tell you how much to bring. My last class had instructed to bring 75 rounds. Those who did ran out before we were actually done.

Be familiar with what you bring, and be conscious of the Rules at all times. Nothing like sweeping the instructor to not pass :)

Listen to the instructor's instructions on the range. A live range where he's assessing you is not the place to argue about using the slide release vs. the slingshot method of loading, for example.

Just a few mental notes from my last class.

Sit down and take the time to read the booklet that came in your package. It's dry, boring reading but it will help you in the classroom. Pay attention to the conflict resolution parts and who may or may not have a CHL. Prints and photo's will take a lot of time and will cut into your class time. Class is mainly an over view of the test. Pay attention and shoot well, you will pass with no sweat.

I shot the course the day before at the same local range for practice - took my mind off of qualifying the day of class, so I could focus on the class material. When it came time to shoot, it went very quickly and smoothly. We had a large class, so I offered to shoot in the second volley, and helped reload during the first volley. I also read the booklet, again, the night before the class, and the lecture the next day was a refresher. I found the course relatively easy, with just a little prep.

DON"T shoot the instructor! Be safe
But if you shoot him, he can't fail you! :shooter: :judge:
On the other hand, he can't sign your ticket, either...
Yeah. Don't shoot the instructor. :thumb:

Good advice! I'll try not to shoot him. Can I curse at him if he gives me a low score?

That might depend on a couple of things:

Does he appear to have a short temper or other anger issues?

Is he currently carrying a loaded weapon? :shooter:

Are either or both of you wearing body armor? O0

Could you just :fart: real loud and unpleasent?

...but heres the importand one...

Did you still pass the test?

I took the class today. I passed it all with flying colors. In fact, it all seemed rather easy. My passport photos and certificate should be here by Friday and then off it goes to DPS and my 2+ month wait begins!

My passport photos look like a mug shot with me wearing a red shirt (work shirt).
Hope you aren't familiar with the original Star Trek series...remember what always happens to the guy with the red shirt on the Away Team? Then again, you have a name and get to speak.

Thanks guys! Now, it's just a matter of waiting...

BTW, the red shirt guys were always getting killed, but they did so with some degree of dignity...
