Harry, take that Red Dot and put it almost out on top of the front sight (at least past the magazine well). Then move your rear sight back to where you had it. You should be able to look through the rear sight and still see the front sight (in the bottom third of the optic), that is your co-witness. The red dot should be above the front sight and not on the front sight like you are still aiming through the open sights. You want the area around the dot itself clear of the sights. Your open sights are there now for only if your red dot breaks.

I have been noticing a lot of people talking about the size of the optic and being able to see around it and I guess it just took a while for that information to sink in. You people have your red dot sights way too close to your eye. It is NOT a rifle scope. The further away from your eye it is, the better your red dot will work. So put it out there and then quit looking through the red dot...just focus on your target with both eyes open and the dot will appear (on the target if you are holding the gun correctly).

If those open sights are getting in the way of the red dot, or taking up half of the real estate in the optic, then remove them, or get a higher riser. Remember, most people who are doing the co-witness are doing it with fold down sights that are completely out of the way when normally looking though the red dot.

Yes, other than the parallax at very close range, those two dots should be just about on top of each other at 25 yards when you look at the target.

I just caught the PSA weekend deal of a Bushnell TRS-25 for $65 without a riser. Looking at your pictures, I am wondering how high a riser I should get. Or maybe I should just remove the open sights.

Well, my TRS-25 finally arrived and it is as small as I hoped. It is only 2 inches long and it is going to require a riser. I measured and looked at what height riser I would need, but Botach is running their 2 rung UTG risers for $8 a piece, so I ordered both a medium (.83") and a high (1.0") riser.

I was looking over the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 and my first impression was that the on/off/intensity switch is hard as heck to turn and many time when you are turning it the battery cover will unscrew. I was also a little disappointed that it has bikini covers rather than flip ups. So I am looking for where to store the bikinis (so you don't lose them) and thinking about how to tether them when I found that the front cover is a good tight fit on that tough switch and now it is much easier to turn with that rubber cover over it. You can still see the numbers on the switch, so that is not an issue and the battery cover no longer unscrews when turning the switch.

For those of you who haven't seen the TRS-25, it is about half the length of the Vortex SPARC with a slightly brighter and larger glass view. I like the on/off switch on the SPARC better, but the TRS-25 makes up for it in size and weight. You may be able to get a flip up on the front, or maybe even a shine filter, but there is no room on the back glass for anything other than a rubber cover like what came with it. In other words, no threading for a multiplier or other attachment.

I am looking forward to MilProGuy's report on his UTG Leapers red dot.
