 It's APRIL - Woo Hoo!! Spring is upon us and the days are getting longer!!

Time to break out and shoot some rifles! :shooter:

:icon_ rocker:We will keep the same rules as usual — NO RULES!!! :icon_ rocker:

Shoot as many targets as you like, as many shots as you like.

There are some standards IF you want to try to be in a match up. 5 shots at 25 & 50 yards and 3 shots at 100 yds. That is only a suggestion - it is NOT a rule!!

Special challenges are always welcome - have an idea or a grudge match - post it up!!

It's not a rule - just a fact - a hole in a target is going to count! 6 holes is 6 holes - there are NO throw aways!

Deadline May 3 - 2015 @ midnight.

Iron sights, red dots, scopes, 22LR, 12 gauge slug, military C&R, ARs, Hunting rifles, sniper rifles, bolt action, lever action, 1 shot, 10 shots, mag dumps, timer challenges, dream it up and let's do it!

Did some targets at 50 yards today, both FMJ and BTHP, suppressed and not to see what difference there is.
On the FMJ SHTF ammo the average grouping is 3MOA (1.5" groups) or under either way.
Not much difference.
The BTHP Match bullets (almost) always get 1" or less (<2MOA) at 50 yards, but slightly better when suppressed.
I still get the occasional bullet that will wander off on its own, but not by much.
It is a QC problem with the handloads. I need to weigh and match everything to get consistency.
Next batch will will have the brass and bullets weighed and sorted.
Each and every powder charge will be individually weighed to be exact, and the OAL to be the same for all cartridges.

I was using the Lee Powder Measure set for the charge on the last batch, and it could have been off +- .1gr from case to case.
May also look into getting a better scale, .05gr. accuracy or better.
Need to get all shots in the same hole, or at least a group size no bigger than 2 bullet diameters. (.45")

Here is one from today suppressed.

That one high shot blew it for this group.

MilSurp Day!
Mosin at 50 yards, bench front support, Scope 7X, Hornady 30 CAL .308" 150gr. FMJBT, probably 44.0gr. IMR4320, OAL 2.820" +-.005" (Why be exact? Not a Match grade rifle :( )

Group - 2.173"
Far Shot - 1.371"
Score - 3.544

First shot was the far shot, then I adjusted the scope 6 clicks right.

OK. Something new today.
Prone, front support, 10X, suppressed, 48 yards (had to do in front of bench, no path to target either side of it) Eh. Close enough to 50.
Same ammo as previous posts.

Group - .823"
Far Shot - .617" <grrrr! missed the center again!>
Score - 1.440

Gotta get a bipod.

Yes, that is a LimbSaver on the stock. Makes it a lot more comfortable to shoulder.
Does nothing for recoil, there isn't any.

OK. 98 yards prone, same ammo and 10X.
This first target before I adjusted the scope for 100 yards, the second one would have been better but the first shot was high and left.
Did I mention that prone is very uncomfortable for a sore back and shoulder?

Group - 1.462"
Far Shot - 1.993"
Score - 3.455

After I adjusted the scope.

I better stay with the bench.

Why XM193 bullets suck for accuracy. From what I could research, only good for 4MOA MAX.
Proof. Meh. Enemy still dead.
100 yards, Casper, suppressed, 12X, bench front support, X-Treme 55gr. FMJ XM193 bullets. Some powder for 3000FPS.

OK, my entry in the rimfire category for this month!
Savage Mark II, 22Long Rifle 3 X 9 x 40 Sweet 22 scope by BSA. same basic scope as on my 17 HMR except different drums for bullet drop, Savage has acu -trigger that is very nice.
shooting the Remington Golden bullet, so much for a bad bulk ammo Huh??
different strokes for different guns I guess?
works in all my 22 weapons.
Several under 1 inch groups as you can see from the entire target, a few under 3/4 inch.
enjoy.
OPPS! forgot a picture of the Rifle!

.223 @ 50 yds + new equipment

New Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x40 AO Rifle Scope & Dead-Hold BDC Reticle and Rousch Sports muzzle Brake!
I'm not sure if Rousch makes this or is distributing a knockoff (seen other VERY similar) BUT it works - called the Competition Short Break.

The scope reaches out - a big improvement, fine tune eye piece, parallax adjustment, a winner!
The muzzle brake REALLY settles the gun down in hand or on a bench - impressive too!!! Faster follow up shots for sure!

Had a few in that range - had to run them through On Target to pick a winner.
This one is NOT for scoring purposes - #2 from the bunch, same gun:

50 & 100 yds at the range in the top Pic.
On the Muzzle Break the side openings point slightly back as do the holes on the top - they help vs muzzle rise and recoil.

Well, no wonder Casper has no recoil!
I just weighed the rifle with the silencer and it is 9 pounds 8.9 ounces no magazine.

A M1 Garand is still an M-1 Garand by any other name!---------------------:lifting:
It is kind of funny, rifles much like pistols many times people look at a light weight number, then add extended magazines, floor plates, and end up with a heaver weapon than if just going the conventional route.
I always giggle when people talk about pistol weight as a bonus and then add lights, lasers, extended mags, etc to a tote gun.

What I've entered is all that will be entered until I get my 300BLK together. No more .223 targets, I'm satisfied with the accuracy, no sense shooting up all my target ammo.
A couple for today though, suppressed at 50 yards. 4 targets, first 2 sucked until things got warmed up.
Not for scoring, one always goes off a ways.

Ruger American 30-06 shake down day

I left the house with 50 rounds of ammo loaded at two slightly different levels with the same Varget powder.
New rifle, new scope and the 1st ammo to go down the barrel.

Once the rifle was sighted in I shot 7 rounds through the chronograph. The fps records were right on the expected levels of 2700+ and 2800+ not yet to max.

With what I had left I shot at 50 and 100 yds getting used to the new setup. The cheek weld is good, the scope height is right and the gun ran smoothly - the 3 lobe bolt is a gem and I'd turned down the adjustable trigger to a light setting - probably 3-3.5lbs with NO creep - that's a winner.

I'll do better with the ammo and get used to the scope (maybe swap it with another in the herd).

All-in-all it was a good shake down tour. BUT IF I'd had another 50 rounds of ammo I would have certainly have enjoyed shooting it!!!

Next time out up another grain on the Varget AND try some heavier match bullets!!
