SW M&P 40c and M&P 9c Range Report

Picked both Smith and Wessons up Monday evening and got them to the range Tuesday, noon. Heavier than the PT140 and PT111, hold same number of rounds. Recoil is less than the PT140 and PT111. Carried the 9c today without the mag extender in a IWB Sticky holster, no problem. Shooting them with and without the extender mag was not an issue. But I have only about 50 rds through each. Tuesday was a quick trip. But they both had no issues with JHP and FMJ, Federals and PPU. Take down and cleaning was easy...I use the "pull the trigger" method to release the slide, like on the Taurus. Cannot believe I have two M&P compacts!!!! Awesome guns. Love the trigger length, weight and consistency. I have the manual safties, that's what I am used to.

Thanks, mingaa! It was a quick trip to the range. Combined Federal FMJ and HST's 180gr for the 40 and 115 and 124 for the 9 7yrd and 10yrds.

Hope to go back this weekend and spend a little more time. The target on left is the 40c (-:

I was going to guess that the bigger holes were the .40 but thanks for making it easier for the lesser folks...:)

Thanks Czechbikr, I am really happy to have them. Wore the 40c all day at work. Been shooting with the non-extended mag and no problems at all. I like carrying with the non-extended, less profile. Will experiment with the extended mag next week. Got to the range again Sunday. Awesome.

I wish that S&W would hurry up and make an M&P in 10mm Auto already. The cartridge has been making a comeback and the Glock 20 needs some competition.

I could be very interested in that also...as it is I've been eyeing the EAA Compact poly in 10mm.

I like my 2 Witness in 10 MM, actually I like my other 2 in 38 Super as well.
they are 4.5 and 4.75 inch barrels and metal however. still not to bad to carry.
a shorter barreled version in poly would be lighter for sure.
the price is as low than the S & W.

One of the current objects of my gun lust:

eta...even with the EAA being poly, it still weighs 8 ounces heavier than my Shield 45 ACP. If they came out with a 10mm at the same weight, it would be the winner.

Very nice indeed!
Have had the M&P40C for sometime and is my least favorite pistol. It's solid, dependable, well made - we just don't meld. I've swapped palm swells to no avail. Mine has the safety and I found it switched to fire often when carried since it's basically a fulcrum, my untucked shirt dragging on it could change position. I'll eventually sell it off with a half dozen mags - all of which have the finger rest extension. I'll wait until gun prices rise again.

I hear you Wino. I am practicing without the extender and find that I can draw from the IWB holster ok, drop hammer and fire. I have noticed the safety change position once with a slight tug against material, so I will keep attention on that. I carry it in a Sticky holster and will have a kydex insert in a few days and see how that goes. I like that it has a low profile and as you say well made, solid and dependable. I shoot both the 9 and 40 ok without the extender and am happy with the results. Fits my hand, shoots well, dependable, high capacity and concealable. I still have my 709 and 740 for the private social occasions but I carry the M&P 40c at work. Thanks for the feed back! :)
I replaced my 24/7 (sent to Taurus) with the M&P compact 2.0. I am very pleased with the gun. I like the 18% angle on the grips, to me it is much more of a natural angle to hold.

Good to hear. I have been carrying the 40c to work all week. Another range trip last week and the 9c and 40c are excellent. My PT111 went to Taurus on 8/2 for lite strikes and still in the "we received your gun" column. LOL. 12 week turn around time. Still carry the 709 annd 740.
