Bubba, according to the shooting rags... some of them trustworthy.. it seems these are made over in Turkey.

All 5 sources I have say the quality is as good as when Beretta was making them.

Beretta sold tooling, jigs, lock stock and barrel(pun intended) to Turkey.Turkey's arms makers have become pretty good at making firearms in the last decade or two.

Since Turkey's gun makers are making solid world class semi-auto shotguns, side by sides, rifles, and pistols that are sold here in the States, and mostly good words have flowed from the owners, it would be hard to go wrong with the price or quality of the Stoeger.

Was going to buy a Cougar until they went off the market. Didn't know at the time Beretta was seeling off the design and all that went with it. Bought other pistol to fill the niche at the time, but things happen. :D

Waiting on a Taurus 24/7 OSS with night sights in 9mm., but won't be out until March.
Have a Ruger SR9 that's fitting the bill until then.
Weather here has made gun testing a joke until the weather 'stabilizes'. :???: ;D :D

I have the 9mm and 40 cal Stoeger Cougar these are great guns. I have not had a single problem with either one, they are accurate, reliable and they are interchanable with the Beretta version.

qwiks you got it mostly right.

beretta actually owns stoeger so they did'nt sell it to them so much as ship it over there to turkey.

beretta discontinued the cougar a while back lack of sells i think was the reasoning.

the stoegers go for quite a bit less as the beretta stamped ones but stoeger is only making full sized 9m and .40's atm 8000/8040.

i've not had a chance to handle one but my understanding is ya they are very good quality cougars some disagree and say they're "almost" as good but i'd imagine they're probably as identical as a mass produced gun could be.

had a chance to pick one up for 330 new and i passed it up.. thinking heck if i can get it for 330 why not 300.. have'nt seen any since and i hear the price is creeping up :(

Awww joe, you should have picked it up for $330. They're up to $375 around here now when they started at $325.

I have both the Cougar 8000 9mm and the Cougar 8040 40 cal. They are great guns and accurate as well. Last time I looked at the price of these guns they were in the $375-398.00 range. I think the word has spread about the quality of the Stoeger Cougar and either the price has gone up due to the many purchases or the scarcity of finding them. Either way the price of these guns keep going up.

I had a chance to shoot one at the range a while back. There were no issues, but for the money you can get a Taurus with some extras if you want a 9mm or a .40. The only thing that didn't sit well with me were the sights, they were a bit on the small side for me for a full sized gun, but for carry, I guess they will do.
