In Texas, there is a town called New Braunfels, where there is a large
German-speaking population...

One day, a local rancher driving down a country road noticed a man
using his hand to drink water from the rancher's stock pond.

The rancher rolled down the window, and shouted, "Sehr angenehm! Trink
das wasser nicht. Die kuhen haben dahin gesheissen."

Which means: ("Glad to meet you! Don't drink the water. The cows have
crapped in it.")

The man shouted back, "I'm from New York, and just down here
campaigning for Obama's health care plan. I can't understand you.
Please speak in English."

The rancher replied, "Use both hands. You'll get more.

I'm not sure how many of the good citizens of New Braunsfels still speak German, but it's a good one, anyhow. :D

I am delighted to hear it. One of the things that makes this country great. Remember the "Codetalkers" they have the same problem!

Thats what I love about Texas..its multi-cultural diversity. Besides very anglo looking Germans and even Irish people there is a whole lot of very bronze coloured, dark haired and dark eyed Tejanos that carry German surnames along with the " Coloreos", the red headed Irish that settled in Mexico after Polk's genocide on Irish and Welsh Immigrants during the Mexican-American War and anti-Catholicism slaughter on the Irish in California, and Texas. Just a bit of history there. Our heinz 57 background has Irish and Welsh relatives too.

Now I know why some people need to speak more than one language.

Because some of the places you go that sell booze don't speak English?
