There should be a federal law that says if a teacher owns a concealed handgun license in any state, they can carry inside schools they happen to be in. That law should also say that if the teacher doesn't work in a state that is CHL friendly, they can go to a neighboring state that is, get a CHL there, and carry a gun in their state at the schools they happen to be in.

That shouldn't be so hard, should it? :icon_rolleyes:

Teachers are just like any other group of individuals, some like, enjoy firearms, some hate them and are afraid of them.
we tend to forget things like that as we take sides on the discussion.
good for them for wanting to be prepared.
Personally I am on board with letting teachers that wish to carry at school to get a license, get certified and even get a bonus pay for stepping forward and doing it, those that don't want to participate then so be it.

Great idea and concept though I believe for in order for this to be successful these teachers need much more training than just a concealed carry class. I believe there also needs to be some tactical training as well. I will also agree that not every teacher will feel comfortable doing this and I am OK with that and will respect those that won't. This should be completely voluntary. At the same time those that won't should not disparage or vilify those that will. After all as they always tell us "it's for the children!"

I personally know two retired educators who have carry permits and carried every day in the classroom. I really wonder how many actually do carry.
Some IDPA style training might be beneficial.

Their doesn't seem to be many school employees here so I will put my 2 cents in.

I would love to carry concealed but the administration are hard core leftist's.
They came out and told us to download a app on our phones on what to do in case of emergency.

So everyone will be looking at their phones when hell is walking down the hall.

Agreed! some type of combat, tactical, assault type of training I would think is what is needed.
not just shooting at stationary paper bad guys at 7 yards.

I commend them for their willingness to take on the responsibility of protecting their students from would-be terrorists, especially considering all of the opposition they're bound to encounter, bad press that they'll likely receive as a result, and the legions of charlatans who will no-doubt attempt to portray them as villains should they ever be forced to shoot an underage terrorist.

I lack sufficient words to appropriately express the among of respect I have for anyone who is willing to place themselves in harms way for the sake of others, especially when it is a thankless task such as this which is more likely to be met with harsh opposition rather than the gratitude they deserve.

The school districts in Texas which allow selected staff to carry have very thorough and ongoing training. I am aware of five school districts in Texas that have some armed staff. One I am very familiar with has the initial and ongoing training at a Police Academy of a local JUCO.

Also, the staff who are carrying are kept secret except for the local police, state troopers and sheriff's office, who many of the staff trains with and receives instruction from. It probably wouldn't be too hard to figure who carries once you weed out the lefty teachers. I had a history teacher who was was a Navy Seal and I would have trusted him to turn a school shooter inside out by reaching up their rectum and grabbing them by the teeth. He served in the Alution Islands, and he was the size of a big Grizzly. Fine man.

Well, have there been any mass college campus shootings . . . . on campuses in which “Campus Carry” have begun? Will be interesting to see the outcome of one of these WHEN it happens. You just know it’s gonna happen at some time.

There's a program I've heard of (I think it's called FASTER) where the instructors are police SWAT instructors, and actually have the prospective carriers practice force on force tactical training, sometimes located at the school they work at. (Obviously not during school hours and not with real firearms) In addition, there is coordination with any school resource or local police, so that there is less chance of responding LE shooting the wrong person upon arrival to a shooting incident.

Georgia just passed Campus carry not to many months ago.
I have heard of no reports of attacks since.
before Georgia Tech is an open in city campus pretty much, many students live just off campus in a area known as Home Park as rent is good and typically they have 5-6 students share the rent as they are houses.
the bad guys use to hang out there like Vultures waiting for prey to come walking along, rob them, take all the electronics, money etc.
Haven't heard a single incident since the carry law passed.
actually several students started a gun club and teach safety course and practice with firearms, a local range has given them quite a discount to use it as well.
There was the regular old blood will flow from the dorm rooms by mostly the professors when this bill passed, its all died down since none of this has happened.
