Hi,

I'm just about ready to buy one of these but I could use some input from some owners of the Model 651.

I'm going for one of the steel models as opposed to the lighter weight version.

How do you find the overall quality of this revolver?

How "snappy" is that .357 recoil?

What .357 ammo have you used in it?

Which has less/more recoil?

Are there any grips that lessen the .357 recoil?

I know that's a lot of "recoil" questions. I'm not recoil sensitive. I have a 3" SA Micro Compact in .45acp and don't mind the recoil at all. But with me, "less is more" when it comes to recoil, so I'm just trying to get an idea what's involved with the 651 and recoil.

How's the stainless steel finish on these?

Anyone carry this in the DeSantis Nemesis holster? It looks to me like it might be a pretty good fit.

What holster do you carry it in?

Please add your overall comments about this revolver.

Oh yeah, who has the best prices on these?

Thanks,

Mike

I just recently got a 651 in ss it seems to be very quaility every thing seems to work very smooth with no problems.

The recoil isnt bad at all and I usually shoot 9mm.

I have only put winchester 110 gr hp and blazer 158 gr hp threw the gun so far wasnt much differance in recoil to me but the accuracy differance was big the winchester was dead on but the blazer was consistantly high.

The finish looks good I haven had it long so i gess time will tell. I dont have a holster yet but it fits very well in a front pocket.

Only complaint i have right now is i cant find a good speed loader for the thing.

Overall I like the gun alot and i am very happy with my purchase.

Oh yeah and welcome to the site :)

Some of this may be old hat to you, but figured this stuff needed to be covered. Some of this info in the links is repeated, but the rest is of significant interest.

Rewriting all this would cause major, major carpal tunnel syndrome. That's why the links.
Lots of pertinent info in these.

Thank you guys.

Now time for my homework. I did a search on "651" but it didn't produce much. I'll learn to navigate around the forums better starting right now it sounds like.

Thanks again,

Mike

In the Revolver portion of the forums is the Taurus snubbie family all have a lot in common. Even though these are of related ancestory what goes for one sometimes can be true for the others. So it isn't just the 651 that much of the info is about. 650,850,,85,and 851 threads or even model 66,65 threads and posts may very well have stuff you are looking for.

Granted it isn't all 651.
Things are kind of divided into those of us who carry .38 Special in the .357 snubbies and those who carry the .357 mag loads in those pocket cannons. Nothing wrong either way. Just personal choices for many good reasons.

Taurus Talk at MSN also has info on these as well.

I've had mine about a year. The DeSantis was my first step, then a Packmayr or Hogue grip (I've forgotten). I ended up with a Crimson Trace laser grip and while it was VERY costly it made the gun complete. I've tried many types of ammo and then I settled on "short barrel 357" and "38spl+P" type ammo. Speer Gold Dots are wonderful with "speed strips" for reloads. Now I have the "smart carry" and "super tuck from crossbreed" as other holster options. When the gun MUST be left in the car it's "reasonably" secured with a "secure it" cable lock box. Cabelas and Midway USA are a few sources you may check. http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h.../651 Taurus/?action=view&current=IMG_2117.jpg

More homework for ya? ;)
