I'm getting ready to pick up my first 1911SS in a week or so. :D Want to try to figure out it's age base on the serial number. I understand that there is a "NZ" series, "NA" series, "NBM" series and so on. I think there are at least 5 generations.

Can any of you tell me how they match up to generations and creation date? :???:

Have read that Taurus cleaned up some of the thumb safety problem after Feb 2008. Would like to confirm my new gun was made after that.

Make sense? Thanks much for any help...

I couldn't get that to work with my MilPro or PT1911.
you can call them they will answer your question I think Flyer has the CS number I'd have to dig for it :)
Hey, thanks eveyone for the help. :thumb:

Appreciate it. My 1911 is due in first of next week. :D
Well, my 1911SS's serial number starts with 'NAY'... bought in new April.
My 1911B1 (blue w/ rails) serial number starts with NAX, bought new in July.
My PT1911SS bought new a few days ago is NBM. Miami says it was manufactured January of 2008. They say first letter denotes caliber, second denotes year and third denotes month.

So, does than mean that "B" is 2008 and "M" is January?

hmmm... so M thru Y are the monthes?
(seems to match up with others with NAX and NAY.)

And, "Z" = 2006, "A" = 2007 and "B" = 2008. :)

If so, THAT is exactly what I needed to know.... THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
interesting....so NAY is Dec. 07 than?

I'm just back from the pool ~after 2km swim my brain has been temporarily watered down lol

That can't be right.... Mine is NZJ
Bought mine new this spring, although who knows how long it's been on the shelf.

Stainless PT1911, no rail, NAX....., which means (according to the above) November 2007.
So, mine is NZI... a .45 made in 2006 of 1988? Huh? According to the theory here, I is another year... 1988. M-Y are the months... this ain't right...

Or... does this ONLY apply to the 1911 series? That would explain...
