So why was the PT638 so short lived?

Damn...I wanted one to. I looked on the Taurus website and it is a discontinued model. Anyone aware of why it was dropped? A 15 shot compact .380 was appealing to me for sure.

IMO, the PT600 series pistols were not made originally for the US market and I believe they're still available outside of the US.
With Taurus being a smaller company, they could introduce many different models and be able to be up and tooled for them in a relatively short time compared to other companies. This allowed for them to put out many different designs and models to possibly test the waters without losing a lot of money. They seem to be streamlining the business more so I wouldn't look for a lot of the more "radical"designs like there have been. I would love tks see them come it with something in 10mm and possibly bring back something in 357 Sig but I'm not holding my breath. This is all just my opinions
They are still around, just keep an eye out. You're bound to run into one sooner or later.
Still available at the LGS one town over from me.

PT 638. Brand new. 279.99 . I am sure I could talk him down to 250 :p

Guns for Sale - Online Gun Auction - Buy Guns at GunBroker.com has one but you have to type in Taurus PT 638, just that way or it will not come up on the screen.

http://www.gunsamerica.com has one too.

Gun Genie (Davidson's) and other online places do not have them listed anymore.

If you can talk him down, then more power to you...but if you can't, then $279.99 would be a super-low price, IMHO.

Yes sir. He's had a few sitting on his shelf collecting dust since June of '12.

I think for now, my collection is complete. Maybe, just maybe, have room for a .22 pistol. Apart from this I pretty much have all the bases covered. PT111 and BT380 for CCW. Got a full size 9, for the range and some HD stuff.

I have only heard good things about the PT638. Accurate, and a soft shooting pistol. If you can find one; grab it.
I own one, bought it new and the extractor was broken. Call the service line at Taures and they sent me shipping labels to send it to them. Got it back from from 5 days later fixed and shooting good. I was surprised at the service time. If you can find one get it....
