My new .45 ACP P320C suddenly stopped going into battery. I suspected my reloads were at fault but even the Sig Elite V-Crown rounds are holding the slide open. I've shot 20 rounds of the Sig ammo and 60 rounds of 200 grain Berryman FTP and 4.6 grains of WW231 before this occurred. I dived onto the web and this is a common problem with the gun. While researching remedies to the situation, I learned my gun was not eligible for the Sig upgrade for the trigger and disconnect replacement and modification offered a couple of years ago. Looks like it was a late production gun that had the mods applied before shipment even though the trigger is the wide version. I think I'll call Sig to see what they think.

Setting aside my personal distaste for your choice of expression, I hope that SIG makes it right, as they ought to, seeing as this seems to be a design defect, even if it doesn't manifest itself until after the owner has put a fair amount of rounds through it.

I called Sig this morning and received an education on the design of the P-320. This gun cannot be loaded with a round directly in the chamber through the ejection port. I did not mention this in my previous post but that was how I was placing rounds in the chamber. The P-320 feeds from the magazine only and sure enough, when I placed a few rounds in the mag and cycled the slide, all was good🤦‍♂️, I'm much relieved that it wasn't something requiring return to the factory.

While this doesn't affect me, it is always good to see a thread wind up with some kind of resolution so the next guy with the same problem can have a chance. All too many threads (regardless of the topic) go unresolved.

So, on behalf of the Internet, Thanks!

I suppose this is analogous to bolt action rifles with controlled feed actions, such as the Mauser 98 and its variants? There's a special device for feeding single bullets without using the magazine.

I've read, but never tried, removing the bolt and snapping a cartridge in place, then re-inserting the bolt while holding down the remaining cartridges in the integral magazine as the way to get an additional +1 carry capacity.

Since I never engaged game in combat, I never found this useful for me. Maybe if hunting dangerous game (CXP4) but I'd have to a LOT of practice with dummy rounds made from nickled brass to convince myself the risk of something not going wrong using this approach was tolerable for me. Not theoretical risk, empirically tested risk by me with the brass and projectiles I planned to use in my firearm that I'd bring to use.
