You are definitely on to something there, CZ. I can see it happening with classic English decorum and proper manners.

(Presented with apologies to rodfair and any other members of British origin. One of my great-great-grandfathers immigrated from Chichester.)

"I say, Reginald, is that the Purdy you use in sporting clays? Bit of an overstatement for these pesky drones, don't you think?"

"Not at all, Archibald, not at all. Nothing too good in defense of jolly old England, what?"

How do you threaten anyone with a drone?
What they going to do............give people haircuts?
Give me a good rolled up newspaper and start keeping score.

Fly them into the engines of a full 777 on takeoff and you will see the threat.

And THAT is why they should be charged with felony endangerment or its English equivalent.
Well, identify the drone pilot then. It's not as easy as you think.

"Well Reginald at least you didn't bring one of those new fangled over and under things.. or worse, one of those awful looking pump-action guns so loved by our colonial cousins..!!"

Actually, Archie old chap, old Trubshaw, my man, insisted I gave him the keys to my safe just so I wouldn't be tempted.."

"Quite so Reginald, quite so. Can't let protocols slip eh what. Next thing you know people would be turning up wearing that dashed unsporting camouflage stuff instead of good British tweed.."

Archibald, shuffling around and looking a bit edgy "I say old bean, fancy a snifter? I have some nice Pimms here.."

"Oh spot on old thing.. pass the flask", looking at his watch, "It's well past Pimms-o-clock. Cheers..!!"

Er.. I rest my case your honour..!!

Think I'll take a little different stance. I really don't give a damn. England in general, and London in particular decided that citizens did not need to protect themselves. Let them sleep in their own crap. Ring the airport with people holding butter knives. Oh wait, aren't butter knives also banned? A glimpse of what's in store for us if the socialist have their way.

All our firearms laws hinge on the notion of 'good reason'. Target shooting, pest and vermin control, deer stalking, game and wildfowl shooting, all are 'good reasons' to own firearms in UK/GB. So I would hazard a guess that, those goodly folk, who eat toast would, lawfully, be in possession of your aforesaid butter knife. However, the said butter knife would, I fear, have to pass certain criterion; blade length no longer than three inches and the blade, if fixed would have to be covered, unless in use. Also, if the blade folded it must not be of the type that lock open, or have an assisted opening mechanism like with a switch-blade. Of course, as we have some 43 county (like State Police) police forces there will, undoubtedly, be 43 different interpretations to what I have described... Forget all the firearms training courses from A to Z, over here you are best served with a law degree if you want to understand our firearms legislation.

I'm not a big fan of more government control, but I do think the fact that anyone can buy and fly these with essentially no regulation is asking for trouble. So many possibilities for bad behavior with them, from downing airliners to dropping bombs or bio-weapons.

I have heard that Homeland Security is very concerned about possible applications.

...My plan is simple...there are still plenty of fowl hunters in the UK and they should form a ring of 500 or so around the perimeter of the airport...
And that wont work old bean..

"In England & Wales it is an offence without lawful authority or reasonable excuse to discharge any firearm within fifty feet of the centre of a highway which consists of or comprises a carriageway..".

And I can't see drones being accepted as 'reasonable excuse' by the powers-that-be. Sad fact, but true.
