sending PT24/7 back to taurus for work

As I posted in a thread started by pgreen7436 about serious accuracy problems with PT24/7 pro's, I've got one that shoots WAY low, and it's going back to the factory tomorrow.

The target below is 8 inches wide, and was shot using the PT24/7pro 9mm FROM ONLY THREE YARDS! At that range they group decently about 2 and 1/2 inches low. I don't know about you guys, but I would call that unacceptable even in a non-target handgun.

There's no handgun manufacturer that I know of who doesn't sometimes get a lemon out the door. You can find this sort of tale about just about any gun you can name, so I'm not upset, although I am a bit disappointed. I want this gun to work right, hoping the folks at Taurus will do good work and make it right!

I couldn't agree more! I'm not upset as much as I am disappointed. My Taurus 617 .357Mag snubbie is more accurate than this and my 85B .38 Special is even more accurate than that. I don't expect the accuracy of my Springfield 9151L 1911, but I also didn't pay $800 for my 24/7. I have read enough posts that I think the next time I go to the range, I will adjust so that the front dot is in the middle of the back top and see what that does before I send it back. I know myself, and if I ever had to pull a gun to defend myself, family or friends, my adrenaline would be pumping so bad that 3" at 10yds really won't be noticeable.

Hey gents, new member here. I was refered by a member on Combat Carry's web site. I have been spanning the globe trying to find rear adjustable sites for my 24/7 PRO .45 ACP. What I have been forced to do with my 24/7 was to shot with a combat sight picture. Imagine a "W" with the front post being the upper middle of the W and the rear two side posts being the bottom of the W. I had to do this because I was consistently hitting about 3 to 4 inches low. I can hit 5" plates at 25 yards with it now but I would love to find an adjustable rear sight that fits another weapon that I can use for my 24/7. Any ideas? Thanks, glad to see that there are other people out there that love Taurus as much as I do!

When I first got my .45 24/7 pro, I could not hit well, low and to the left of target. It took me a couple hundred rounds to get the feel of it. Now, I can hit great! Maybe you just need to shoot it some more?

I have had mine for about a week and I shoot low and to the left also. About the same as Jakes'; only I am shooting from 7 yards out. Although I have never used Novak sights before and I may just need to get used to them.

When I first got my .45 24/7 pro, I could not hit well, low and to the left of target. It took me a couple hundred rounds to get the feel of it. Now, I can hit great! Maybe you just need to shoot it some more?

Here's the thing Z400ACDC, If I adjust the sight picture so that the back sight lines up with the front edge of the slide (the base of the front sight) it groups around dead center. So I really think that there's something misaligned in the top half of this pistol. The two other ppl who I have had try it also shot way low and centered left/right. And from only three yards it's not too hard to get a sight picture going. (Yeah, I know my grouping in that picture sucks for a 3 yard shot, but you can definitely see that it's a group. Not one shot, even one of the bad ones, made it above the center line of the target!)

From what I've gathered, it's approx one inch low for each yard from the target. So at 10 yards it's 10 inches low, off the paper for the targets I use.

Some people might say, "just aim high and live with it", but I'd like to get this thing working better than that. And without knowing why it shoots so low, I have to wonder what part of the gun is so far off and will it get worse? Is the barrell warped? Is the slide not true? I don't have the tools or skills to make that sort of evaluation, and since it's a brand-new pistol, I'm inclined to send it back.

Well, just got back from the range. Put 150 rounds through it and sighted as suggested with the top of the back site at the bottom of the front site. Dead on at 3, 5 and 7 yards. That's not entirely true, at 7 yards, i was a little low. I also tried to just focus on the front site, put it on the target and with both eyes open, see the bottom dot for alignment only. This worked at 3, 5, 7 and 10 yards. At 15, I just couldn't adjust enough to get in the 4" ring, I did stay on paper this time though.

Jake, please let us know if sending it back to Taurus helps this out.

The same thing happened with my 92, it was the same thing. LOW. I sent it back and it still shot low. I found later that it was an ammo problem. I was using the winchester white box ammo, I switched to wolf and the problem went away.

My PT145 did this too. I adjusted my sight picture and am happy with it now.

Once you get it dialed in and get use to the straight 8 sites this pistol is very very accurate. This is 12 shots right at 14 yards with the 24/7 Pro .45

I think you will find that

(1) what you are describing is pretty true of most of the Heine sights... and here is what the folks at Heine are saying... "Taurus 24/7 Pistol Sights. Taurus is using sights, which were designed by Richard Heinie specifically for the Taurus 24/7 Pistol. Taurus manufactures the sight under a license agreement with Richard Heinie and Heinie Specialty Products, Inc. These sights are designed to be used as follows: Point of Aim Point of Impact, at 20-25 yards. In simple terms, Dead On. These are not designed to be used with a six o'clock hold. Richard has personally tested several Taurus 24/7 Pistols in 9MM, 40S&W and 45ACP...each of these pistols have performed as stated above. If you are shooting low, be sure you are using the correct hold and that you are not pulling the pistol down during the trigger stroke. Heinie Specialty Products, Inc. does not have replacement sights for the Taurus 24/7 Pistols. At this time we do not have night sights for these pistols. If you have a problem with the Taurus 24/7 Pistol or the sights, please contact Taurus Customer Service.

(2) No one is making "replacement" sights for the Taurus dovetail, but

(3) if you will note the smithing section, you will notice how others have been modifying sights for the 1911 and Hi-Power to fit the Taurus.
