Any know why gun MFGs don't use a squeeze cocker/striker fire like the HK P7. Seems like it would make a naturally safe gun with a nice trigger pull. Looked for a Taurus company email to ask them but didn't find one.
Thanks for the feed back. I just remember shooting one as kid and it was a very nice. I kind of thought the gas blow back might be problematic but the single action trigger with the cocker as the safety sure was nice.As you point out, a gun manufacturer does make a gun just like the P7 - Heckler & Koch makes one.
As to why more manufacturers don't is that it causes (at least in the P7) a very spongy trigger pull. It is a very complex and very expensive solution. It is necessitated in the P7 by the gas-retarded blowback system used. Most guns are variants on the Browning delayed blowback, which is both simpler in and of itself, and allows for simpler safety mechanisms.
