The cop must have been close behind. The shot is from his body cam. Looks to me like the BG is about to eat bricks - no time to get his hands out.

The perp is lucky that the older gentleman didn't just pop him a new one and be done with it. Good for him though.

yep!
might have caused the bad guy to knock out a couple of his gold teeth or pulled the ring from his nose causing undue pain and suffering.

he was likely carrying a full sized steel framed gun causing his balance to be off !

The thing that stuck out to me, was that the "suspect" was armed with a 9mm pistol "loaded with 29 rounds" - that must be one of those extended mags...

Firearm Gun Trigger Gun accessory Gun barrel
The standard extended mag carries 33 rounds +1 for 34 SO did the BG:
- put a cap or 5 in someone’s ass
- ran out of ammo and was on his way to rob a gun store (bad idea)
- his thumb got tired and he quit at 29
