I am set to inherit my grandfather's old rifle and I was curious if anybody knew anything about it here? I believe it is a Savage Arms .308. I think it is a lever action rifle. It looks to be in pretty good condition, but I figured since it's so old maybe there was something special about it! Any info would be appreciated, I will spend the rest of the afternoon Google searching it!

More than likely it's a Savage Arms Model 99 if it's a lever action in .308. Good gun and very accurate.

Nothing special unless you considering good workmanship, accurate, and a round that's pretty darn good. Shoot it you will like it.

My grandfather had a Savage Model 99 in .308. He said you could hunt anything from rabbits to elephants with it, taking head shots on either end. I have no idea what became of it. All I can tell you is that I didn't inherit it. You're a lucky man.

Have it checked over by a competent gunsmith, familiar with the Model 99. Then, get it appraised. Some models are quite valuable.

Treasure and enjoy your Grandpas rifle. Think of him each time you use it.
