Taurus Armed Rifle Shootout - February 2013

Pick up to 10 classes in which to submit an entry!
One target entry per class per shooter.

Standing Offhand Classes - may use sling
1. Rimfire rifle - 25 yards - 5 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)
2. Rimfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)
3. Rimfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (magnified optics 1.5x and above)
4. Centerfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)

Bench Rest Classes - bench rested* on fore end only or bipod (no mechanical rests**)
5. Rimfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)
6. Rimfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (magnified optics 1.5x and above)
7. Rimfire rifle - 100 yards - 3 shots - (magnified optics 1.5x and above)
8. Centerfire rifle - 50 yards - 5 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)
9. Centerfire rifle - 100 yards - 3 shots - (iron sights or non-magnified red dot sights)
10. Centerfire rifle - 100 yards - 3 shots - (magnified optics 1.5x and above)

Target ~ Any target the shooter chooses whether handmade, printed from computer, purchased at store, or purchased at shooting range

Shots per target ~ 5 shots 25 yards and 50 yards; 3 shots at 100 yards. No flyers to be removed from groups fired.

Scoring ~ Group size in inches + farthest shot from center of target in inches = Scoring Measurement
Example: a 1.250" group with farthest shot 2.410" from the center of the target gives a scoring measurement of 3.660".
- Smallest Scoring Measurement wins the class entered. All measurements are made center-to-center.
- If there is a tie in the Scoring Measurement between entries, the entry with the closest farthest shot from center is the 1st tie breaker.
- If another tie breaker is needed, then the smallest group size is the 2nd tie breaker.

Number of entries ~ One target entry per class per shooter

Each entry requires a photo of the target posted by the shooter with measurements marked on target using ruler/calipers or with target software. Each entry also requires the mention of the Make, Model, and Caliber of the rifle. If optics are used, please include a description of that, too. A photo of the rifle used in the entry would be helpful as well. As with all internet shooting competitions, this is an honor system event.

* Fore end of rifle may be rested on sand bags, rubber, carpet, wood, etc. or shooter's hand/forearm/elbow. Rear of the rifle must not be supported by anything other than the shooter's free hand and/or shoulder. No rear sand bags or rests allowed.
** A mechanical rest is any rest that uses a screw thread or other mechanical device to adjust level, elevation, or windage.

___________________________________________

The last date for a target submission is after dark on the last day of February 2013. Any targets posted a bit late due to time zone differences will be allowed to enter. I will do my best to have all entries compiled by the end of March 2, 2013.

Hey y'all! For now, I am posting up the same rules, etc. for a repeat of January.

If y'all want anything changed, added, removed, let me know. More than likely, I will not be able to get back to this thread until this weekend.

Yep, nice shootin' gwk, as usual.

I wish I had the bucks to get a .22 rimfire rifle. I would enjoy doing this side of the competitions with you guys. But for now every extra little bit of money I come up with goes towards reloading supplies.

Hit the range yesterday and had fun with the Etouffee pistol challenge with an interesting RO story to tell (posted in that thread). Did some practice for IDPA Sat. and also got in 3 rimfire rifle categories. I hope to get back out this month and hit a few more - maybe soot 100 rim again too. In ON TARGET if you "save view as graphic" you save what the screen is showing. I scan at 96 dpi but this feature gives a good look at the group in detail - I have included 2 shots of each target - I'll put #7 in a second post. Here's #3 & 6:

OK, mingaa, this means WAR!
I will shoot #6 until I get everything into a .5" circle!
(But I will keep a reserve amount of .22LR for the apocalypse)

I think we both did better last month IIRC. I'm all a bit high with shots but the group was pretty tight. "may the lord rain down 22LR on both our houses!" :)

Heck yeah!!!

Finally got a chance to go to the range today, 6 weeks without shooting feels like all winter. Decent day, mid 50s and sunny but winds were gusting 15-20mph. Had a quite a few rifles to sight in so I started with those and tried to get in the groove for later.

Love the format of the shootout as you have to not only shoot great groups but they have to be right on target, took quite a few shots to get the scopes dialed in just right and in the end had to hold off some to get it right in the bull. I Shot a lot of groups with flyers and finally started waiting for the wind to die down and then shooting and got some great groups, then worked them into the bulls eye. Last time I used a front bag for support but this time I used my bipod and I think it helped.

I noticed some great shots at the range but getting home and studying the targets I must say I was impressed, took 125 rounds of .22 and 50 rounds of .223 but I think these groups will stand up.

First up is #3, rimfire 50yards with optics, 5shots. Shot with my Volquartsen using Wolff Match Extra. Gun shoots everything well but the Wolff cuts out the flyers that plagues so much rimfire ammo. 5/16" from center + 3/8" group = 11/16" or .6875"

Next #7 Rimfire 100yards with optics, 3 shots. Same gun and ammo as #3. 11/32" from center + 3/4" group = 1 3/32" or 1.09375" Man 100yards in long for a subsonic 22, it takes all my dial up and a little hold over to get in the bull.

My last category is # 10 Center fire 100 yards, 3 shots. My first outing with this rifle. Built it late last fall and have not had a chance to shoot it. Noveske lower with Bushmaster parts kit and JP precision trigger, Rock River upper with 1:8 twist 24" Wilson barrel chambered in .223Wylde and a Vortex Viper 6.5-24x50mm scope. I had high hopes this thing being my new yote killer and it did great. Took a few round to dial in, groups were decent with some 55grain Hornady TAP but got better with some 69gr PPU match. Finally tried some of my new handloads (69gr Sierra BTHP over 25.5gr CFE223 powder) and wow, this thing is a tack driver. Ignore the scribbling on the paper, don't know were I got that group measurement, it should read.

9/32" from center + 1/4" group = 17/32 "or .53125"
