It was a good day at the range today, and an interesting one. I decided to play with a few of my double action .357's. People would stop by to watch me shoot and practice my double action shooting, and I really needed the practice. I've been sucking at it lately and needed to do the basics. Today I got back to my comfort zone and was doing well.
I had out a GP100 in 4.2", a S&W 686 4", a 627 Tracker in 4", and a SP101. I had plenty of ammo and let some people try them out. No one would touch the 627 like it was contaminated until I picked up and put a nice group on target. Only then were people willing to check it out. Taurus you owe me on this one!
I still shoot the 686 the best. The action is so smooth. Here's about the best comparison on size between the three. The 627 still had more felt recoil even with the porting, but it's marginal. The GP100 had the least. I'm going to put a Hogue the 627 and do another comparison. In singe action I shot a one tighter group with the 627, and in double action the 686. I do shoot the 627 more than the other two. Once I got a couple cylinder loads out of the 686 it was tighter. All three were 2" or smaller at 10 yards in single action. So all three were comparable accuracy. The difference was in double action and I think my grip on the other two with the Hogue was the difference.
