REPORT: New .44 Magnum Taurus Revolver - The Raging Hunter revealed!

Yes, the rumored Taurus Raging Hunter I posted a thread about in late December has been confirmed, albeit in a much different form than I was lead to believe based on the original article.

Taurus Raging Hunter: .44 Magnum Hunting Revolver

As you can see, it looks nothing like the Raging Judge, nor does it look like a S&W 69, nor does it have an octagonal barrel, ergo it looks nothing like it was described in the original article, which is disappointing because it sounded unique/cool. Don't get me wrong, the Raging Hunter is not without it's charm, but it looks more like a S&W Performance Center 629 Stealth Hunter than that which was previously described in an article by GH&G.

I'm not sure if I like it or not but it is one serious looking piece of hardware!

I sure hope that MSRP is the typical inflated price you usually see in gun mags. I think of a different brand revolver when I see that price, not necessarily a Taurus.

Nah, I'll bet that the cost will be much cheaper once it's commercially available. MSRPs are almost always hundreds of dollars above their actual price and Taurus is no exception. Seriously, check out the MSRPs listed on the Product Pages on Taurus' website sometime, then compare them to what you paid for yours.

According to the article, the barrel IS octagonal...

To start with, the 8.375″ barrel is a two piece design with a steel sleeve inside of an aluminum housing. The housing has an octagonal shape with a large slab sides. “TAURUS” is spelled out along the side.

Read it again, only the barrel housing is octagonal. You may think I'm nitpicking, but when I think of an octagonal barrel I think of a one piece barrel, not a slab of aluminum crudely carved into an octagonal shape which houses the barrel itself.

I like it except for the two tone look and the caliber. I'd love to see similar revolvers with 4" and 6" barrels in .357 and .45 Colt. 8 or maybe even 9 shots for the .357 please. It looks big and beefy but with the aluminum barrel shroud it's probably not that heavy.

I'll buy that for a dollar!

I get you. It's like a hex receiver on a Mosin. It's about the strength of the thing.

Between this and the 692 I'm pretty well doomed. This is exactly what I would have put together if I designed the raging hunter. Pretty much like a Cyclops.
Taurus has added product pages for all of their latest firearms on their website now.
Not really feeling the two tone, while im not a fan of the matte finishes taurus uses on their revolvers these days, either one of the colors as a solid color would be much better looking, they dont exactly mesh well.

Personally I would like it to be real blued, and polished stainless, as the 2 color options, not the matte stainless and black. I'll admit i have 2 of their revolvers that have the matte finish, but that was only because you couldnt get it in anything else and i liked the revolver, maybe its just me, but my gut tells me, the finish just isnt as durable compared to old school blued and polished stainless. And i dont like the way they feel under the fingers, they are not smooth to the touch.

My wife accuses me of having a bit of the tisum when i comment on such texture based things, she could be right, either way, not something im thrilled with.

There's also a solid black option.

Why do they feel the need to port so many revolvers. Give us an unported version.

Wow, that two-tone is one seriously ugly revolver to my eye.

This just in! Tuco is a prophet! :D

The all black one is much better looking. But function matters more, and I bet this will be a good seller to the practicality first crowd.

Agreed! Build a big hammer then take some of the power away.
All guns are not for all people!
I'm a little skeptical about the barrel. A steel sleeve in an aluminum housing? That may be a point of weakness for a .44

It should be fine, the barrel housing seems to be more of means to reduce weight while maintaining the aesthetic similarities to other firearms in the Raging Bull line rather than a structural necessity. The barrel itself appears to be sturdy enough on its own.
I wonder how the barrel and sleeve are attached to each other. Press fit or some sort of retaining screw/nut?
There's also a solid black option.

Another nitpicker here, but I don't like how the line of the barrel doesn't match the line on the receiver. That would bug the cap out of me.
