I renewed my pistol license today. I thought that it was somewhat funny that you have to go through a metal detector to make sure that you don't have any weapons when you go into the office to get a pistol permit. Anyway, I've had a permit for about 30 years and this is the first time I had to wait in line to renew my permit. The lady that issues the permits said they had been very busy lately. I guess a lot of people are waking up to whats going on in our government.

Congrats!
I'm not up on the laws there, is this like a CC permit, or just a permit to buy one?

It's a CC permit. That's why I thought it was kind of funny that you could not carry in the office that issues and renews the permits. In Alabama they call it "Pistol License". It's required to carry on your person or in a vehicle.

Most regions are reporting a 150-300% rise in concealed carry licenses/permits issued.
There are some interesting national stats in the following article as well. Take cue Feds - your people (the State) have a strong interest in the ability to HAVE guns. Wake up and serve the people.

(CNSNews.com) – The number of states issuing concealed carry permits has increased by 10 in the past 10 years, according to a report issued by the U.S. Government Accountability Offhttp://m.cnsnews.com/news/article/ten-more-states-allow-concealed-carry-permits-within-last-10-yearsice on July 17.

The number of shall-issue states increased from 29 in June 2002 to 39 by March 2012, and the number of states that do not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon increased from one in June 2002 to four in March 2012. The number of may-issue states dropped, however, from 13 in 2002 to 10 in 2012...

Not sure where you go for your CHL in Alabama but in Georgia we apply at the Probate Judge's office in the Courthouse. And NO weapons of any kind allowed in the courthouse. - So, yes, ironic, but courthouses are off limits.

In Alabama, the county sheriff issues the license. And yes, the office is in the court house.

Same here in Pa, visit the sheriff at the court house. I once forgot that I had a small pocket knife on me when I went in, the metal detector found it. They just tagged it and put it behind the desk till I came back out.

Did that once with my Gerber multi-tool. They did they same, with a mild rebuke, I had completely forgotten about it. I almost always have it on me. I wish I could say the same for my pistols but I work on a military installation and thanks to President Carter, no one can carry a personal firearm on a Federal installation or Federal Building.
