("Marlin"). The transaction is expected to close by the end of January 2008.

Marlin, headquartered in North Haven, Connecticut, also owns Harrington and Richardson (H&R), New England Firearms (NEF) and LC Smith brands of rifles and shotguns."

That's funny, because I'm in the market for a .22 rifle for range fun and was on the fence between a Remington 597 and a Marlin 60. I guess this time next year, pending merger approval, they'll be the same company.

The interesting thing that popped into my head was that Remington is owned by the Cerberus Capital Management which also owns Bushmaster and Chrysler (among other stuff that I'd have to look up). According to the wiki page, they're also going to grab DPMS. Makes me wonder if they're going to go after a handgun company next.
